The League started as a beer league consisting of teams from the "Mountain", the West End (Henny Penny Farms - Lee Hoffner/Farron Frey Construction), and one team from Carbon County - Berger's (Barry & Bill Berger's family had a small bar off of Rt 534 going towards Hickory Run State Park) from Albrightsville Pa.

No paid umpires.......alcohol was a prerequisite before all games.........brawls were common. One 9 inning game was played, soon replaced by two seven inning games on Weds evenings.

My first year was 1977 (1976 we played pickup games in Pocono Country Place with the Bobby & Matt Gruchow's). Our first team was "The Gatsby" which was the bar at the old Pizza Parlor where Pizza Hut at the 5 points intersection is today. We had many other sponsors over the years. RP Hoffman, Kens Hide-A-Way, Memorytown, and Mt. Airy Lodge are the ones that come to mind. I'm sure there were others. I was involved with the league as a player, coach and league officer for over 20 years and I have to say they were great years. Alot of pitchers at the Swifty. Not everyone got along but in the end we knew that we all played for the love of the game (and all the trash talking that ensued). If you're playing now......enjoy the moment, it'll be a memory in the blink of an eye.
