Head Varsity Coach-Jeff Baumgartner

As the founding coach here at O'Connor, Coach Baumgartner has compiled a varsity record of 193-122-2 in the first 6 years as a Varsity program. The Eagles have won the region championship 3 years in a row (07,08,09) and finished in the top 5 in state, 4 seasons in O'Connor history. The Eagles finished as runner-ups in the 07’ state championship game.

Born and raised in Oregon, Coach Baumgartner played high school baseball for Sprague High School for his father, Bill, who was inducted into the Oregon Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2003. The Olympians won 3 League Championships during Jeff's years at Sprague, as well as a State Championship in 1995. Jeff later went on to play four years of college baseball at Western Oregon University, a NCAA Division II school, under his brother, Terry. Together they won the Cascade Conference Championship in 1999. During his tenure at Western, Jeff broke Terry's school record for career pitching appearances as a starter, reliever and closer for The Wolves.

Coach Baumgartner has lived in Phoenix for the past 12 years. Coach B teaches Health and Weight training at O’Connor. He currently lives in the O'Connor community with his wife Darlene, son Billy Bob(4) and daughter Haley(2).



Varsity Assistant Coach-Justin McLain

Coach McLain will be assisting Coach Baumgartner on Varsity for his 9th season. Coach McLain coached at Phoenix Christian High School for six years before joining the Eagles staff. Coach McLain also serves as the Head Basketball Coach for the Lady Eagles.

Justin is a native of Arizona and played for the 2A powerhouse Phoenix Christian. A 3-sport star at PC, Justin lettered for four years in football, basketball and baseball. Justin was named to the "All-State Team" in 1998, as he led his team to the State Title.

Coach McLain went to Point Loma College in San Diego, California, where he played baseball. He then graduated with his degree in Secondary Education from Ottowa University. Justin, his wife Julie and son Jackson(4) and Easton(2). 



Assistant Coach-Chad Renning

Coach Renning is in his forth stint with the Eagles after completing the 2006 season with the Eagles as the outfield and baserunning coach. Coach Renning then took the next three seasons to pursue his career as a Media Relations director in collegiate and professional sports. Renning spent parts of 3 seasons working with; the Volcanos (single A) of Salem, Oregon, the AAA Memphis Redbirds and in the athletic department of the University of Arizona. Chad is currently a long term sub on the campus of Sandra Day O’Connor.



Assistant Coach-Ryan Bicondoa

Coach Bicondoa is in his 5th season working with the Eagles pitching staff. A native of Nevada coach Bicondoa spent his college career at Lassen Junior College, then finished up at Western Kentucky. He was drafted and played in the Yankees organization, then with the Cubs, and continues playing each season in the Independent league, is now retired. Coach Bicondoa is married to Jodi and has daughter Taylor(7) and Tyler.


Varsity Assistant Coach-Bill Baumgartner

Bill has worked in parts of 8 seasons on the Eagles staff. Coach B senior has helped out the program over the years in bunting and base running. As a head coach for 33 years in Oregon, Bill won 3 State Championships including the 1995 State Championship in which he coached, Jeff Baumgartner(his son)and Todd Bramble. In 2003, Bill was inducted into the Oregon Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame, Sprague High School Hall of Fame in 2010 and Henley High School Hall of Fame 2012.

Bill and his wife, Diane, are residents of Sun City half the year and spend the other half of the year at the Eagle Crest Resort in Oregon.



Pitching Coach-Jared Gainey

Returning for his 9th year as pitching specialist for the Eagles is Jared Gainey. Coach Gainey has worked with the freshman and JV pitchers over the last 8 years and is a great asset to the Eagles as he helps develop the young pitcher.

As another proud transplant from Oregon, Jared has been in Arizona for 8 years. Jared played high school baseball at McKay High School in Salem, Oregon, which was in the same league as Coach Baumgartner's Sprague Olympians. Jared pursued a college pitching career at Lewis and Clark College before a shoulder injury shortened his career. He then transferred and graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in Education. Jared teaches French on the O'Connor campus,has a wife, Katie and son James(4).



Freshman Coach-Greg Rice

Starting his 9th year with the Eagles coaching staff is Greg Rice. Coach Rice is also the head girls golf coach on campus, while teaching health/PE. Born and raised in Fontana, California, Coach Rice lettered in baseball and football through high school. His standout play garnered him "All-League" awards in both sports his senior year. Coach Rice then took his athletic talents to San Jacinto Junior College where he again played both sports. Greg then finished out his career at the College of the Redlands in California.

Coach Rice and his wife, Laura have three daughters; twins Emily(25)Jenna(25)and Megan(18).



Freshman Coach-Tony Burgarello

A coach throughout the community over the past couple decades, Tony finally joined the Eagles staff for the 2008 season. Tony played high school baseball at Deer Valley for current AD and then baseball coach Mike Cornish. Tony has been a great addition to the young players of the program as he develops the freshman ballplayers. He works as a finance director at CCV, to keep himself busy when not coaching. Tony and wife Cindy raise 4 wonderful children, Allie (19), Marco (17), Nico (14) and Noah (12).
