ATSA tournaments are divided by grade
3rd grade – class of 2035
4th grade – class of 2034
5th grade – class of 2033
6th grade – class of 2032
7th grade – class of 2031
8th grade – class of 2030
9th - 10th grade - Junior Varsity - class of 2028
11th grade - 12th grade - Varsity - class of 2026
ATSA typically caters to D2 and D3 teams and programs. Any teams that are D1 are encouraged to play "up" 1 grade (sometimes "up" 2 grades for "National" teams). The object for all ATSA tournaments is exciting, fun, fair and competitive play. ATSA tournaments are not for teams to "rank up" locally or nationally. This will keep the scores close and competitive.
ATSA Tournament Rules
All teams must sign the liability waiver. No teams may participate in any ATSA events without signing the liability waiver. The liability waiver is sent to each team individually prior to the start of the tournament.
All rules default to official high school rules with the following exceptions:
Clock
1. Time – 14-minute halves 3rd – 6th grade, 16-minute halves 7th – Varsity
2. Timeouts – 2 full timeouts + 2 thirty second timeouts per game
3. Overtime – 1st overtime is 3 minutes. Teams will have 1 timeout. There are no timeouts carried over from regulation time. 2nd overtime is 2 minutes. 3rd overtime is 1st team to score.
Point Spread of 20 Points or More
1. Running Clock - In the spirit of good sportsmanship, a running clock will be implemented at the point one team is ahead by 20 points or more. If the team trailing brings the score within 15 points, standard clock operations will resume.
2. Full Court Press - Once leading by 20 points, a team may no longer full court press. If the team trailing brings the score within 15 points, standard full court press rules will resume.
3. End of Game – If the score margin is 20 points or higher with 2 minutes remaining on the clock, the game will officially end at that point.
Additional Tournament Information
1. Game Ball – Teams are responsible to provide their own warmup basketballs. The home team is responsible to provide the game ball. Size 28.5 ball will be used for 3rd grade – 6th grade. Size 29.5 ball will be used for 7th grade – Varsity.
2. Home / Away Team – When viewing the schedule through app or online, the visiting team will be the team on top or the team on the left, depending on which device is used. The home team is the team on the bottom or the team on the right.
3. Tournament Format – Saturday is pool play. Teams will play 2 games. The results of pool play (including tie breakers) will determine bracket positioning for Sunday. The winners of bracket play will determine which teams will advance to the championship.
4. Tiebreakers – In the event 2 or more teams are tied after pool play, the 1st tiebreaker is head-to-head competition. The 2nd tiebreaker is points differential (PD). The 3rd tiebreaker is points against (PA).
5. Awards - Each division will be awarded 1 ATSA trophy for the champion, plus 2 individual banners for MVP and Hustle. The runner-up will receive a Finalist banner, plus 2 individual banners for MVP and Hustle. There are no trophies or awards for Silver and Bronze divisions in bracket play.
