BYA Junior Warriors offer fun competitibe play for Bay Area Youth Basketball players in K-8th.

Our games are payed on Saturdays starting February. Game times are 10AM - 4PM.

Player Registration Fees go toward gym fees (officials, staff, uniforms, basketballs, score books, insurance, etc.).

Practices and games are held on Saturdays. Player evaluation dates and locations will be announced. Team draft day starts in late October. In the first week of November, you will be notified by your coach regarding team meetings and practices.

Q: What is BYA JUNIOR WARRIORS?

A: We provide a competitive and balanced recreational basketball program for boys and girls K through 8th Grade. Of primary importance are sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy competition. BYA is a non-profit organization.

 

Q: What to wear and bring

A: Players should wear comfortable sports attire, preferably shirts and shorts suitable for paying basketball, and basketball shoes. All basketballs and other equipment will be provided.

 

Q: What are the grade levels and divisions for players?

A: The PeeWee Division is for children ages 5-8. The All Net Division is for children ages 9-11.

 

Q: When does the season start?

A: Our Season will kick off with Draft Day on February 25. Practices and games for the season officially begin with the first games on March 11.

 

Q: When does the season end?

A: The season ends April 29.

 

Q: When is registration?

A: Registration for the season begins online December 23. Space is limited and registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Click on the REGISTRATION TAB on the navigation bar at the top right of the home page to register.

 

Q: Why is enrollment limited for each division?

A: Maximum player enrollment counts are required due to the limited availability of local area gymnasiums. Once the maximum number of players is reached for a division, a wait list is started. 

 

Q: Why are practices held outdoors? 

A: Due to the lack of available gymnasium time at local schools, coaches must hold practices outside.

 

Q: How many practices per week and when/where?

A: Practices are held 30 minutes before a game. The schedule will be determined after registration has concluded.

 

Q: Can my child play up a division?

A: Yes, players will be allowed to play up a division.

 

Q: Can my child play down a division? 

A: Unless there is a safety issue involved, no player will be allowed to play down a division.

 

Q: What is the included for the registration fee?

A: Players will receive a reversible Jr. Warriors uniform complete with jersey, shorts, and headband as well as a signed certificate from Stephen Curry. 

 

Q: Where are games played?

A: Al games are played on Saturday at Berkeley Youth Alternatives. Practice days and times are determined by by the individual coaches and are normally conducted at outdoor local school campuses.

 

Q: How much of the game will my child play?

A: Each player is required to play 2 periods throughout the game.

 

Q: Why are there evaluations?

A: Player evaluations are essential to our goal of creating equally talented teams. To achieve this goal, the evaluations are mandatory. The evaluations are not tryouts, as all registered players will be assigned to a team regardless of their ability.

 

Q: Who coaches the teams? 

A: Coaches are volunteers. They are mostly parents. In some cases, they may be an individual that is interested in coaching a team but does not have a child on the team. Each coach is required to fill out an application and go through an interview process.
