The CFL Hall of Fame Inductees - 2006

August 16, 2006
The CFL has a long-standing tradition of great football and a laundry list of players who have made a huge impact on the league, making it the outstanding organization that it is today. The CFL is entering its 27th season and with the help of some of the league's past players, here is the first list of CFL Hall of Fame inductions.

1. Joseph D. Sarafa- One of the originators of the CFL and chief organizer. Joe played and coached teams to Chy Cup wins in 1981, 1982, 1986 and 1989. His mother, Margaret, also provided us with the teapot that sits atop the Chy cup trophy.

2. Andy Najor- a tremendous blocking back and rusher, Andy has his name on the 1981 and 1988 Chy Cups and always had his Najor based teams in the hunt for championships.

3. Amir Dickow- Amir played into his 50s and although small in size, played tight cornerback on many of the top receivers in the league. Amir won the Chy Cup in 1981, 1982, 1985 and 1988.

4. Ron Jona- RJ was the epitomy of a CFL player, quarterbacking and captaining his teams to championships in 1983, 1985 and 1992. His 1985 championship team had the only perfect season in CFL history. Ron always made the big play and was considered the best flag grabber in CFL history.

5. Frank Jonna- Frank was one of the originators of the CFL and though only captaining one CFL title in 1984, Frank was a feared blocking back and tenacious rusher, rattling teeth and bones on many competitors (some after the whistle blew). Coming out of retirement in 1999, Frank played one season with his son Joey Jonna and helped the team win another Chy Cup, making his trek the longest between Chy Cup victories.

6. Ken Atchoo- Ken played from the inception of the league into his mid-40's and was known for his versatility and longevity in the league. Ken could play almost any position and filled in where he was needed at any time. Ken was on Chy Cup winners in 1986, 1989 and 1991.

7. Haithem K. Sarafa- In the early years, H quarterbacked and led his teams to 5 Chy Cup titles in 11 years from 1981 thru 1991. He played linebacker on defense and was able to rush and pull many flags. He came up with innovative offenses and defenses to thwart competitors' attacks. He came out of retirement in 1992 and 1999 to help take teams on the verge of playoff extinction to Chy Cup victories. His 7 titles leads all CFL players in Chy Cup victories.

8. Anmar K. Sarafa- H's early championships would not have been possible without having a top receiver like Anmar Sarafa to throw to. Anmar's height and precision patterns made him an easy target as he gained big yardage on key plays year after year. Anmar garnered Chy Cup titles in 1981, 1982, 1989 and 1991 alongside his brother.

9. Al Casab- A wide receiver with moves and speed, Al was considered one of the best receivers and cover backs to have played in the CFL. Al would return interceptions, punts and kicks and could break a game open in an instant. He contributed to Chy Cup championships in 1985 and 1988.
