Leadership
Island HOOPS is directed by Henry Guterson. He leads and coaches all offerings. Henry has been coaching children since 2005. He coached for many years through the Bainbridge Park and Recreational District, the Bainbridge Athletic Club, and Bainbridge Roots Basketball. He was an assistant boys basketball coach at Bainbridge High School (BHS) for seven seasons and the Head girls basketball coach at BHS for two years. He led the Kingston High School boys basketball program from 2019-'22. Currenlty, besides running Island HOOPS, Henry is the PE Teacher at The Island School on Bainbridge. With his free time, he enjoys traveling internationally, spending time outdoors, reading books, and listening to podcasts. He grew up on Bainbridge, graduating from BHS in 2003, and still calls the Island home.
Our Mission
Our goal is to provide an inclusive environment in which children have fun, improve as athletes, give their best effort, and work well with others. We encourage them to find joy in physical activity, and to be good sports in victory and defeat. We work to build character traits that will serve kids well throughout their lives, not only in the world of sports but in the world at large.
