Meet Coach Jon Sheplee

Coach Sheplee has been coaching the last 7 years, which include coaching traveling basketball for 4th-8th grades through Eastridge Athletic Association, Duluth East Basketball and currently with Cottage Grove Athletic Association.  He also has experience with helping as the lead coach of Eastridges Lil' Raptors Program for one year, which he helped with the skill development of Kindergarten through second grade basketball players.  Within his 7 years of coaching, coach Sheplee also coached through the AAU club 43 Hoops at the 11-U,12-U and recently the 13-U Elite basketball teams.  

Coach Sheplee played basketball from the time he was in first grade all the way through High School in Cottage Grove, MN. He played two years at Park High School and one year at Hill-Murray High School.  Through his years of playing basketball he learned and picked up on a lot of different styles of playing basketball and also learned how to develop the correct fundamentals in his players.  

Coach Sheplee focuses strong on defense and the fundamentals as well as each player’s overall basketball IQ.  He expects 110% out of his players every time they step on to the court, and will help with the growth of players skills.  Coach Sheplee enjoys coaching basketball and sharing his knowledge with other players, when he is not working.  

Meet Coach Mario Austin

Coach Mario Austin is an outstanding basketball coach with a strong playing background.  He grew up in the small town from York, AL and attended Sumter County High School. While in High School coach Austin was a member of the McDonalds All American basketball team for the 1999-2000 season along with NBA players Gerald Wallace, Luke Ridnour and Zach Randolph to name a few of the players.  After High School, he committed to play his college basketball at Mississippi State for Rick Stansbury.  Coach Austin played 3 years at Mississippi State and was named to the 2nd team All-SEC team for the 2001-2002 season.  The following year, 2002-2003, coach Austin was named to the 1st team All-SEC team. 

Coach Austin made a decision to forgo his Senior year at Mississippi State and entered the NBA draft, which he was drafted 26th by the Chicago Bulls.  After playing in the summer league for the Chicago Bulls, coach Austin made the decision to play professional basketball overseas.  He began his career with the CSKA Moscow basketball club, and spanned a professional career from 2003-2015.  Some of the team’s coach Austin played for include Hapoel Jerusalem, Al Kuwait, Meridiano Alicante and the WBA Jackson Rage, which he won a WBA championship title.   

Coach Austin completed his first-year coaching through the CGAA (Cottage Grove Athletic Association) basketball association for the 2016-2017 season. He did a great job teaching the players fundamentals of basketball and also assisted in the growth of each players basketball IQ.  He is a high energy coach and expects a lot out of each of his players.
