Sandy Spring Post 68 baseball was founded in 2008 by Matthew Avery & Matthew Cangas. At the time Avery & Cangas were the head Coachs of the Magruder High School Baseball Program. The team was founded to add another team to the Montgomery County League and give more players a chance to play American Legion Baseball.
The team has pulled players from; Magruder, Rockville, Churchill, Gonzaga, St. John's , Sandy Spring Friends, Heights, Gaithersburg, Sherwood ,Good Counsel high schools and MC-Germantown, Frostburg U, Catholic U, Clark U, Emory U, Oberlin U, and Stevenson U. Through the history of the team many players have gone to play in College and return to play for the team.
In 10 years of existance Post 68 has been in the Montgomery County playoffs each year. Winning 4 regular season titles and making 3 consecutive state appearances in 2011,2012 and 2013. Winning its first state title in 2012 only 5 years of existence. Since 2013 Post 68 has not been able to make it back to the state tournament falling just short and finishing in 2nd place 3 of the last 5 years.
The team is Still coached by Matthew Cangas along side his long time Assistant head coachs Jeremy Hannan & Kyle France. The 3 have over 40 years of coaching experience and all three are under 35 years of age.
