Hanks Yanks & The Miracle League Of Long Island - BUDDY Day 9/13/14

Hank's Yanks follows Hope week 2015

The Yankees’ fourth-annual HOPE Week endeavor begins on Monday, June 25 and the organization did something different this year to promote the cause. HOPE Week recently concluded in Tampa, Fla., as part of a program that will see each stage of the Minor League system participate and give back.

Potential Yankees were taught the importance of remembering the less fortunate, which extends to Hank’s Yanks, an amateur youth baseball team that is sponsored by Yankees Co-Chairperson Hank Steinbrenner. Hank’s Yanks has been volunteering their time with hospital visits, toy drives, charity walks and lending helping hands to soup kitchens throughout the New York metropolitan area. They were recently spotted at Walt Whitman High School at the TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) challenger sports All-Star game. The players conducted a baseball clinic with children of special needs last year and continued their friendship by cheering them on at the game.

Hank's Yanks players like 14-year-old Nicholas Tedesco, and 15-year-olds Peter Byrnes and Timothy Maxwell, understand what it all means. For Brandon Wilson, 13, getting awarded the Presidential Volunteer Service Award and his induction into the National Junior Honor Society were as sweet as a pie in his face after a walk-off RBI.

“Receiving these awards is very humbling and I feel like a better person with my contributions to the community,” Wilson said.

The late George Steinbrenner instilled the importance of giving back and every member of the Yankees organization has chipped in, especially with HOPE Week. The good will rubs off Hank Steinbrenner as he oversees the charitable efforts of the Pinstripe Pride.

“These boys are following the tradition of great men,” Steinbrenner said. “I couldn't be more proud of their good deeds.”

Whether it starts at the pro level or the amateurs, the Yankees come out on top in a way that society will benefit from their unselfish efforts.

HANKS YANKS ATTENDS STAR STUDDED LINE UP AT “HURRICANE SANDY” BENEFIT CONCERT AT TILLES CENTER ON NOVEMBER 29TH AT 7:30 PM WITH JOSE FELICIANO & LONG LIST OF TALENT

November 10, 2012 (Brookville, NY). Music Power NY will host a benefit concert November 29th at 7:30 PM at the Tilles Center at LIU-Post in Brookville. The money raised will be used to directly benefit storm victims of Hurricane Sandy seeking food and shelter through the “Music Power NY Hurricane Relief Fund. “Performing will be Grammy Award artist José Feliciano who is insistent this event take place to help support the people in need as a result of the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy.

New York Yankees Broadcaster Michael Kay will host the event along with actor “Chazz” Palminteriand New York Yankees Playoff Hero, Raul Ibanez. Palminteri is best known for his performances in The Usual Suspects, A Bronx Tale, and his Academy Award nominated role for Best Supporting Actor in Bullets Over Broadway. Palminteri said,“The essence of a human being is how he can give of himself to fellow human beings during the most difficult of times and that is why I am volunteering for this invaluable cause.” Many more artists will be added as they come forward to show their support.

Along with Jose Feliciano, the event comes alive with some of the greatest musical talent together in one show. This Music of the Night features Billy Joel’s music with Michael Del Giudice and the band Big Shot, with legendary Billy Joel band Guitarist, Tommy Byrnes. Also performing is the sensational Broadway star Ciarán Sheehan (Phantom of the Opera) with Sarah Pfisterer. Sinatra artist Charles Gange with one of America’s hottest new stars Beau Badrick, recently signed by Lady Gaga's Producers will add yet more variety. Prentiss McNeil of the R & B Group The Drifters will be there to perform one of our all time favorites "Stand By Me." More talent will be announced as the list grows.

As the tragic stories from the hurricane hit the airwaves, Music Power NY Founder, Greg Jagenburg, a world champion swimmer and Long Islander, said, “We need a miracle! What is the purpose of a charitable foundation if we do nothing to help these people living in our back yard? They give us a reason to do this concert, but we need help in making this night a success as we cannot do it alone.”

Jagenburg turned to his friend Ray Negron, for help. Negron is Special Advisor to the New York Yankees, and he is also a New York Times best-selling author. To make this Hurricane Relief Benefit Concert one that people will never forget, Negron who is deeply rooted in community service is donating all royalties for the month of November and December from his book Yankee Miracles, to help those in immediate need of assistance. The book and his famed children’s books will be available at the event. Negron said, “We need sponsor help desperately to make this event a bigger success. We are asking that people support this event and rally behind a most serious cause to help the people of New York who frantically need it in terms of food, clothing, and whatever else we can help with by raising enough money through tickets and raffles. Now is the time for us to feel an urgency to stick together as one.”

Two major foundations will play a very important role in assisting those in need, The Dominican Sisters of Sparkill who focus on those in need including the sick, the hungry, the elderly and the oppressed along with Island Harvest, one of the largest hunger relief organization in New York.

Playing For A Cause - Hanks Yanks Staying Busy - Fall 2011

Breaast Cancer

The Yankees’ 2011 season may be over but Hank’s Yanks is enjoying playing October baseball, which means the good-will generated by the organization remains in full swing.

The group of amateur players, sponsored by Yankees co/chairperson Hank Steinbrenner, and compiled by Yankees community advisor Ray Negron, has multiplied. There are now four teams with groups between 10-18 years of age. The teams have held charity games for the battles against drug and alcohol dependence, breast cancer and pediatric cancer.

Funds were raised on Friday at the Glen Cove Mansion for All Saints Regional Catholic School, where Hank’s Yanks made an appearance. The following morning they were guests of Adelphi University before playing a charity game for the Boys and Girls Club of Long Island. Adelphi Head Coach Dom Scala, who was the bullpen catcher during the “Bronx Zoo” years of the 1970s.

“The Boys & Girls Club hit a bump on the road, so I called Ray and invited the team,” Scala said. “It was a successful outing; we helped out the Boys & Girls Club.”

The team competed well against the talented Panthers student/players, losing 3-2.

The 18U team is making an impression playing in the Queens Metropolitan Baseball League. Competing against older competition, “HY” is holding its own and a witness to that is Adele Smithers. She recently found time to check out a game at Baisley Park in South Jamaica, Queens. Donning her Yankees jacket, which was a gift from legendary owner George Steinbrenner, and a 2009 World Series ring on her finger, Smithers cheered the team to a victory. Afterwards, she spoke to both teams and inspired them to go after their dreams. She also invited everyone to her home to sample her lasagna.

Smithers’ presence added a special aura to a perfect day. QMBL Commissioner Butch Langford presented the game ball to Smithers while both teams stood by her side.

“Hank’s Junior Yanks” coach and NYC police officer Mark Wilson leads his team through crusades against breast cancer on a game-by-game basis. The members of the whole Hank’s Yanks organization will lead a “March & Rally” for pediatric diseases on October 16 at 1p.m. during the Sal Agostinelli Invitational Tournament at Yaphank Long Island’s “Baseball Heaven.”
