WHAT IS A COACH:
A COACH IS A POSITIVE PERSON IN OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR THUNDERCATS FAMILY.  TO ALL OUR COACHES WHO PUT IN THEIR OWN TIME, PRACTICES, GAMES, RIDES, FUNDRAISING AND TIME WITH THE CHILDREN OF THE THUNDERCATS PROGRAM. WITHOUT COACH VOLUNTEERS THIS PROGRAM WOULD NOT BE  POSSIBLE. EVERYONE IS NOT ALWAYS GOING TO AGREE WITH EVERY MOVE YOU MAKE OR DECISION YOU MAKE, THAT IS PART OF COACHING. ONE THING YOU MUST UNDERSTAND AS A COACH YOU ARE THE ONE WHO PUTS IN THE TIME AND EFFORT TO MAKE THIS A SUCCESSFUL PROGRAM. AND WE ARE GREATFUL TO YOU FOR THAT. EVERY COACH HAS GONE THROUGH ADVERSITY THIS YEAR, BUT OVER ALL THIS HAS BEEN A SUCCESSFUL SEASON AS A PROGRAM...

THANK YOU,

9.  Abuse the officials.
10.  Ring a bell or any other obscene noise maker every time your kid scores.

GREAT JOB COACH COLLINS...............

Is there a winner in the house?

Dr. Collins and her Lynn team celebrate a championship season
Dalene Basden wasn’t speaking from a script. The mother of Lynn youth basketball player Stephen Basden was speaking from her heart.
Basden was standing in the middle of the Lido Café restaurant at the Lynn Traveling Team basketball awards dinner last Wednesday night and she was extolling the leadership of the team's coach, Dr. Colleen Collins, a primary care physician who had taken her son and his teammates beyond what they even thought they could reach.
The season had ended on the UMass/Boston basketball court where Dr. Collins and her team captured the North Suburban Basketball League 12-under playoff championship with an 18-2 record.
But Dalene Basden said the lessons the team will take from Colleen Collins’s first year in Lynn will be remembered for a long time.
“You’ve had all kinds of coaches,” Basden told the boys. “I’ve watched  you boys grow up and play basketball and mature. But having coach Colleen to coach you has been a parent’s dream. We have not had a better team. This season was about the training that the coach gave you. She’s got class. She’s got style. She taught you about yourself.”
Basden proceeded to present Colleen Collins with a basketball signed by all the players. The plaque read: “Thanks for changing our boys into men and leading us to the win.”
Collins, a Nahant resident, had coached in that town’s CYO program, but at the request of Lynn English girls basketball coach Fred Hogan, she brought her basketball knowledge and background to the Lynn traveling team program. And she brought her son, Lincoln, into the program as well and let’s just say that Lincoln, a sixth grader, is a tremendous prospect who was deserving of the team’s Triple Threat award.
Basketball background? Yes, in addition to being a brilliant physician at the Mass General Hospital Clinic at Revere Health Center and a graduate of the Yale University School of Medicine, the 5-foot, 10-inch Collins was a big-time basketball player.  Collins, who is part Native American, was recruited by several  Division 1 schools out of high school in Baskingridge, New Jersey, but she turned down a scholarship to the University of Delaware to attend Bates College where she played varsity basketball and tennis.
Collins enjoyed her first coaching experience in Lynn. She said she knew early on that she had a team capable of accomplishing its goals. “What really turned the corner for us when we started practicing twice a week  and they were doing 125 foul shots a practice,” said Collins. “I added a second practice during the week [at the Johnson School gymnasium in Nahant]. My kids were in better shape than any team we played.”
Collins said the kids were very accepting of having a woman as their basketball coach for the first time. “The kids were very positive,” said Collins. “They knew I was pushing them and that I knew the game. They were very respectful. The credit goes to these kids because they took practice seriously.”
The players saved their best performances for the playoffs. Freddie Hogan, a fifth grader, heated up from three-point land to help Lynn defeat Peabody in the semifinals “Freddie is a terrific little guard who’s really cool out there,” said Collins.
Freddie Hogan, Steve Collins, and Charles Collins excelled on defense in the championship game against Salem.
“This year was a lot of fun,” said Hogan. “Dr. Collins was a really good coach. I learned a lot from her.”
Stephen Basden, a student at the Brookwood School in Manchester,  spoke about the togetherness that Dr. Collins instilled in the team from the first day of practice.
“I knew from the beginning that we could do well because coach Collins had us working as team,” said Basden, who hopes to be a lawyer one day. “She really developed us into becoming a family, as one. We all had heart. It was great having a doctor coach us. She knows a lot of stuff. She played basketball in college and high school. Coach pushed us to the limit because we had no limitations and it worked out. And I want to thank my mother. She’s the team mom. She’s always helping with the scorebooks.”
D. J. Mullen, a 10-year old fifth grader, was one of the team’s youngest players. “We won a championship because we became one,” said Mullen. “We learned a lot from our coach.”
Twelve-year-old  Eraldo Custodio, who came to the United States from Brazil when he was 7 years old,  loves to play basketball. “It was fun because I had amazing teammates and coach Collins was the best coach I ever had – she taught me to run the floor and how to post up,” said Custodio, the team’s 5-foot, 8-inch center. “I want to play high school basketball.”
Dr. Collins said she’ll always treasurer her first season in Lynn.
“It was awesome,” said Collins. “I loved coaching these kids. I hope they’ll have me back.”

The new white-on-white uniforms have the players’ names on the back of their jerseys above the numerals.“They are Nike Pride uniforms,” said first-year head coach Fred Hogan. “We’re trying to bring pride into our program. We have “Bulldog Ball” on the back of our warm-up suits and that means hard work.”Hogan said graduates of the program will receive their uniform as a keepsake at the team break-up banquet.“The girls have to be an outstanding citizen, keep up their academics, be a positive role model in the school, and they have to stay on the team – and then they’ll get to keep their uniform when they graduate,” said Hogan. The Lynn English program is making strides under Hogan, who was an assistant coach to Marvin Avery at Lynn Tech prior to be being named the Bulldogs’ new coach. English defeated Tech, 54-33, in the consolation game of the Boverini Holiday Tournament to improve their record to 2-4. The Bulldogs fell to St. Mary’s, 54-42, in overtime in the semifinals.Renay Hamilton, a junior captain, likes the new look.“I like the new uniforms. They show the new Bulldogs and they show our pride,” said Hamilton, who was named to the Boverini All-Tournament Team. “Our names are on the back and the whole team likes that.”

Note from Coach Morris

FIRST OF ALL I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE U16 PLAYERS FOR THEIR EFFORT IN THE STATE TOURNEY AND MY ADMINISTRATORS FRED AND CHRIS FOR BEING THERE FOR US IN OUR TIME OF NEED. WE NOW HAVE TO RE-GROUP AND TRY TO FINISH OUR SEASON ON A HIGH NOTE AND MAYBE IF THE MONEY IS RIGHT AND WE WIN, WE WILL BE ABLE TO PLAY OUTSIDE MASSACHUSETTS. I LOVE ALL YOU GUYS - LET'S CONTINUE TO WORK AT MAKING THE THUNDERCATS THE BEST BASKETBALL ORGINAZITION IN HISTORY. WE WILL PRACTICE AT BREED ON THURSDAY 6:15 SHARP, WEDNESDAY WE WILL HAVE A TEAM MEETING AT KEVIN'S BAR AND GRILLE RIGHT ACROSS FROM THE POLICE STATION IN LYNN. ALL PLAYERS MUST ATTEND!

WITH BRIGHT WISHES FOR OUR FUTURE
RESPECTFULLY JAMES E. MORRIS

OUR PLAYERS HAVE MORE TALENTS, ON AND OFF THE COURT...

On Tuesday April 12, 2005 Darius and his Project Summit Classmates performed A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeares. This is something he has been working on for months along with the many other things he's involved with. Life is more than basketball.

Dave Woumn

This is true through hardwork and Academics the Thundercats will blossom, on and off the court. As Darius Woumn's coach i am proud to be involved with great kids and parents.. Dave and Vanessa, Darius is a great kid.

Thanks Coach Hogan U11 5th Grade Team.

U13 BOYS WIN CHAMPIONSHIP @ WARRIORS TOURNEY

GOING 3-0 TO CAPTURE THE TITLE CONGRATS COACHES AND PLAYERS....

FOLLOWING ARE PICTURES FROM TOURNEY....

Playing Time:

Playing time is not guaranteed. All players will be a contributing member of the team. Players are challenged in practice sessions and are provided opportunities during game situations to demonstrate basketball skills. All players receive playing time; however, some players might receive more playing time than others. The amount of time that a player receives is determined by several factors such as; having a "hot hand", match-ups, foul trouble, attitude, attendance at practices and games. Every coach will try his or her best to play your child through the course of a weekend: 4 game tournament. But no playing time is guaranteed.

Although during any one game an individual may feel that he/she didn't receive appropriate court time, over the course of a season each player is provided adequate opportunities to display their talents. Since the amount of playing time that a player receives has the potential to become a serious source of friction among players, parents and coaches. It is your responsibility as a player to address this with your coach personally and privately. If this becomes a problem bring this concern to the Director to see if it can be reconciled. Parental involvement in this area is strongly discouraged.

Thank you, Massachusetts Thundercats

4:00  PM                 Citizenship Speech by Generals Head Coach Germaine Sattiewhite

4:15  PM                 Clinic Ends, Camper of the Day Award Presentation

4:30  PM                 Food for Campers

The camp will begin promptly and on time, 12 noon on Sunday June 8, 2008 @ Manning Field in Lynn.  Time is short so it is very important that campers register and are ready to go on the football field when the whistle blows.  Each camper will be asked to bring football shoes, shorts or sweatpants, a good attitude and a willingness to work.  We will provide free T-Shirt to each camper that is registered by the final day, which is May 25.  Early registration is extremely important because we will only order T-Shirts for pre-registered attendants.  If you don’t pre- register a spot is not guaranteed nor a T-Shirt.  Food will also be served at conclusion of day to participants.

Along with T-Shirt and food, each kid will receive instruction that will increase their level of knowledge and awareness for the game of football.  Coaches will be from area football teams, current Pop Warner coaches and most importantly the #8 nationally ranked North Shore Generals players and coaches.  The advantage of the camp would be, receiving instruction that is generally given to athletes that have a much more advanced skill level and age.

This will be a fun and challenging opportunity for your child to commit and try become the most outstanding football camper, that they can.  For some  participants it will be their first chance to participate in the wonderful game of football.  It will ease their introduction to the game.  This camp is to open to young football players from any area pop warner or youth football team.  Groups to be instructed will be very small and will allow for a much more personal level of coaching for your child.

The cost of the day is $25 and you may register through Friday May 25. Late registration as stated earlier is not guaranteed and if it is possible a $15 late fee will be assessed to bring the total to $40.  The camp is open to all boys and girls that are part of the any pop warner or youth football family.  A fun group  is expected on that day and we anticipate a full day of learning, sportsmanship and a chance to fellowship with kids they usually compete against.

The day will consist of orientation, a group stretch and warm-up, offensive position session, testing in the 40 yd. dash by offensive position groups, defensive position session and a game of Razzle Dazzle football to end it all with some fun for the kids.  The participants will be treated to a brief speech by the Head Coach of the North Shore Generals Germaine Sattiewhite.  Then at the conclusion of the speech your child will walk out with a greater love for the game, a new skill set, a certificate of completion for the day, free T-Shirt, maybe the camper of the day award and food.  So be sure to get you registration papers and in let’s get ready for some football.

I hope to see you soon!  Pleas take a moment and visit our team website for player and coach info @ www.northshoregenerals.com.  As we prepare to bring the Generals back home to Lynn we want everyone to get used to saying,   GO GENERALS!

You will receive confirmation upon receipt of application.

2 U16 Thundercats Players Make Gym Rats All Tourney Team....

Keandre Stanton (6-5 F) Mass Thundercats:
Tall, lanky (160 pounds) Forward who runs the floor well and finishes in traffic (Dunks). Very long defender who deflects passes and has the ability to block shots. Plays well with back to the basket on offense and is a great rebounder from the Forward position.
Antonio Reyes (6-0 PG) Mass Thundercats: Physical, yet heady point guard. Good-looking left-handed jump shot who can heat up from three-point range. Sees the floor and makes creative, effective passes. When defenders got up on him, he went past and attacked the rim hard to finish or dish off.

Honorable Mention: Trae Weathers and Malcolm Brown 4 Thndercats make All Gym Rats....
