About Us

The Sting is a Travel Program for both Softball and Baseball.  Only the best qualified players are selected to play for us.  Players are selected for their skills and not where they reside.  There is a possibility that a certain team will look to be more dominant by one particular town.

The Sting is a travel program based out of our three local towns.  Towns that support Passaic Valley High school.  Players must reside in the three towns school district in order to play for us.  We are not affiliated with PVHS Softball or Baseball, but work very closely with and have a great relationship with their Coaching staff.

In 2017 we will be fielding 8 teams both in Baseball and Softball. We will have 5 teams on the baseball side and 3 teams on the softball side.

Tryouts will be done by independent evaluators. Grading the players on basic skills,  Throwing , Receiving, Hitting and base running.  Point system is as follows. 5 outstanding - 1 needs improvement.  Player will receive a tryout number to be worn on their jersey to identify themselves to evaluators.  Once tryouts are completed.  Evaluators sheets are returned to our coordinator  who gathers the information and prepares an excel sheet listing the players with the highest point total to the lowest.  Only the evaluators and coordinator see the evaluator's completed forms.   When completed the Head coaches who are on hand to observe the work outs will review the players evaluations.  Only Players who have made the team will be notified by email and posted on our website. Players are expected to arrive 30 minutes prior to scheduled tryout to loosen and warm up.  Tryouts will begin at the scheduled times. It is strongly recommended that Players attend all tryouts. With the start of every new year we rebuild our teams. Players who have played prior are still required to try out each and every year for their age appropriate team.

Our head coaches are experienced travel coaches.   It is our position that parents are not head coaches unless they meet our coaching standards and approved by the Sting Board.  Currently a majority of our head coaches are not parents of players they coach.    Our coaching standard for our head coaches are that they  played and coached extensive ball in the game they are teaching and must have played at the high school and college level, some professionally.   Assistant coaches will be determined once the teams are selected.  No assistant has an incumbent position. Coaching for us is a privilege not a right.

Fundraising will be available to help offset playing costs.  Each team will have the opportunity to fundraise to help offset or pay outright for their playing fees.
