Brittany Kraky Article

February 27, 2003
A good athlete never shows anyone how to lose a game, not even if their team has a losing record.

They would play the game to the best of their ability and God given talents, typical Brittany Kraky. The Lakeland junior scored 33 points against Western Wayne early in the basketball season.

She is similar to Xena, when people around her are tired from fighting. That’s when she’ll rise to the occasion, and try to bring her team back on top.

On Friday December 20, 2002, Lakeland’s, Brittany Kraky unwrapped her own Christmas present by scoring a career high of 33 points against a good Western Wayne team." Scoring 33 points felt good," stated Kraky, as she smiled." I wish that I were able to score that much in every game. But, those 33 points weren’t enough to tame the Lady Wildcat's. They came back in the 2nd half of the game and scored 39 of their 58 points to defeat Lakeland 58-57.

Brittany Kraky’s aggressive defense helped the Lady Chief’s overcome a skilled Bishop O’Hara team 48-44 late in the season.

In the season finale against Riverside, she scored 14 points to lead Lakeland with a 74-52 victory. The following week in the playoffs, Lakeland had to face the Lady Viking’s for the 3rd time this season. But, they couldn’t manage Riverside’s talented defense, as the Lady Viking’s walked away with a 47-44 win over the Lady Chief’s.

There was often days when Lakeland needed a big shot. They would always manage to get the ball in the hands of Brittany Kraky." She is our team leader," quoted Lakeland’s, Kendal Miller." Brittany takes control when she is on the court." She is a great basketball player," added Miller, while walking into the locker room.

Brittany got interested in playing basketball when she was 9 years old." When I was young my parents were like big sports freaks," the Lakeland point guard said. Her dad coached her fifth grade through sixth and he taught Brittany the basics of the sport. So, blame him for Brittany being the athlete that she is today.

Mrs. Kraky had hoped that someday, when her little girl reached high school that she would be playing basketball for her alma mater, and she did." I think my parents were the ones who got me interested in basketball". And she is still playing for the Lakeland Lady Chief’s.

Today, Brittany enjoys playing basketball; winning or losing she out is they’re performing to the best of her ability." I love the game," loudly she said.

In school, she worries about test, homework, and the big report that is due, and also disputes with her friends. When she’s at home, there are other things on her mind. So, what does Brittany Kraky do to take her mind off all those things, play basketball." It gets me away from everything in my life," said Brittany.

When she is playing basketball, there are something’s that do bother her, like having a losing record the past 2 years." Basketball could be frustrating at times, especially when we are having a losing streak," Boasted Lakeland’s Junior.

In each game Brittany would always find away to improve herself." She’s an all-around player," said Coach Smith." Brittany does everything I ask her to do".

Does every basketball player set goals before each season? " My team goals are to have a winning season," she simply said. They did not accomplish that this year, after Lakeland ended their season 10-14." My personal goal is to score 10 points a game, which has not happen yet".

When Brittany is not on the basketball court, she is either running track for Lakeland or found on the sidelines with Lakeland’s cheerleading squad in the fall at football games.

In Track, Brittany is part of Lakeland’s 400 and 1600 relay teams. She also does the 100,200 and 400-meter dash for the Lady Chief’s. Last year they finished the season 10-1, there lone lost was against the Honesdale Hornet’s. Lakeland finished 1st in their division. They are seeking for another division crown this season, with Brittany leading the pack, it could be possible. She is also listed as one of Lakeland fastest runners coming into this season. Wow, what a great athlete! Don’t be surprise if you see Brittany Kraky’s name listed in the newspaper’s headlines once again.
