Kutztown Dolphins 2023 Coaching Staff

Lauren O'Brien – Head Coach

Lauren O’Brien is originally from Connecticut where she swam competitively from the age of 7 through high school.  Competed at YMCA Nationals for 4 years (98-02) on the Wilton Y Wahoos.  Lauren swam in college at Clarion University (02-06) where she was a NCAA All American.  After moving to the outskirts of Reading to teach 7th grade at Wilson, she coached Lincoln Park for two summers as well as Wilson Age Group. Lauren and her husband moved, and coaching was quite a drive so put it on the back burner.  After having two kids and moving to Oley, Lauren’s family joined the Kutztown Dolphins summer 2021 and had a great experience!  All are looking forward to the return of her family and having Lauren coach the Kutztown Dolphins summer 2023!

Heather Masemore – Assistant Head Coach

Coach Heather graduated with her associate degree in Early Childhood & Bible from Lancaster Bible College in 2008. Heather taught at Lighthouse Christian Academy from 2008-2013. She started competitive swimming at the early age of 7 and swam year-round for Tri-Valley YMCA Swim Team until age 17.  Heather was an assistant coach with Tri-Valley for 5 years, working with primarily the 12 and under age groups.  Heather was also an assistant coach for the Fleetwood Summer Swim team for 2 years and worked with all age groups. For the last 4 summers, Heather was an assistant coach for the Dolphins and worked with the Junior and White groups.  Heather was also an assistant coach with Muhlenberg age group winter 2021!

Lisa Houser – Assistant Coach

Started in 1984 as a lifeguard at Bern Twp. Pool and progressed to assisting with the swim team in 1987.  With a degree in special education and concentration in childhood development, Lisa has been able to encourage children of various abilities in all areas of their lives, based on their style of learning, including in the pool.  Lisa worked for Emmaus Aquatic Club 1994-2015, between raising a family and her own Kutztown Dolphins swimmer.  Being an EMAC Swim America certified instructor, she utilized her passion for swimming and water safety while teaching baby/parent classes through stroke refinement clinics for both competitive and pre-competitive swimmers of all ages.  She continued to offer private swim lessons for both adults and children, with and without disabilities.  She has been an active, swimming member of the Kutztown pool since 1996 and enjoyed assisting coaching the Dolphins since the summer 2021!

Tyler Boland – Assistant Coach

Tyler Boland or Coach Boland is a 19-year-old college student. Next year he will be a sophomore and swimming at Albright College.  Tyler graduated from Wilson High School (which he says is great! 😉), in the Sinking Spring area.  Swimming has been a big part of his life!  As a kid, he swam at the Lincoln Park and Green valley pools.  He also swam and played water polo all four years at Wilson High School. Outside of the pool, he is busy and says he is a huge history nerd.  He even loves learning about Military history and taking care of WWII veterans, which is a huge passion of his!  Tyler is very excited to return with the Kutztown Dolphins again this summer and is looking forward to helping everyone be better swimmers!   Go Dolphins 🐬💪🐬🏊!!!

Kenzie Frey – Assistant Coach

Kenzie Frey is a Penn State Berks student majoring in Elementary and Early Education. Kenzie started swimming at 9 years old for Fleetwood. Also swam with TRVY and Muhlenberg High School. She was a backstroker and butterflier for both teams.  Kenzie has been coaching since she was 16 years old, starting as an intern coach with TRVY, then moving on to be assistant coach of Fleetwood & Topton. Kenzie also has done private and group lessons for 5 years, while also working another job and doing online classes. She is excited to join the Kutztown Dolphins!
