RHS @ NJSIAA HS State Championships, Atlantic City, NJ - 3/8/13-3/10/13
Congratulations to Roxbury's newest high school wrestling state champ, Dillon Artigliere! Dillon won the crown at 160lbs by going 4-0 over the weekend and capping a perfect 43-0 season. Stephen Caserta went 2-2 at 106lbs, making it to the round of 12, Jake Legotte went 2-2 at 132lbs and Stephen Arthur III went 1-2 at 195lbs. Well done, boys! Roxbury Pride!
RHS @ Region 1 Tournament, Wallkill Valley HS - 2/27-3/2/13
Four Roxbury Gaels will be heading to Atlantic City for the NJSIAA HS State Championships after a successful weekend in Sussex County. In addition to the District 2 Coach of the Year, Jim Dolan can now add Region 1 Coach of the Year to his accolades. Congrats Coach!

RHS @ District 2 Tournament, Randolph HS - 2/23/13
The individual portion of wrestling season has begun and the Gaels had a very successful District tournament this year. 10 wrestlers placed in the top three to move on to the Region 1 Tournament next weekend. Roxbury won the District 2 title this year and Coach Jim Dolan was named Coach of the Year!

The Roxbury High School Gaels' team season ended with Roxbury making it to the State Sectional Semi Finals. Unfortunately, the season ended on a heartbreaker against Warren Hills that came down to criteria. All in all, it was a great season and the team finished with a record of 19 wins and 4 losses. Now on to the Individual part of the season....

The past month has been a very typically busy January for wrestling.
The RHS Gaels have now wrestled 18 matches with a record of 15 wins and 3 losses. The team started off the season on a roll with 11 straight wins against solid opponents. The three losses all came against teams ranked in the top 20 in the state. As a result Roxbury finished out the last week in January ranked #19 in New Jersey! In addition, the Gaels are also ranked 2nd in Morris County behind powerhouse Delbarton. Nice work, guys! Read about it here.
The Gaels had a very good showing at the Morris County Tournament coming in third by a one point margin to West Morris Central. Dillon Artigliere became a two-time county champ and also took home the award for Most Outstanding Wrestler. Other placewinners include: Jake Legotte (2nd), Stephen Arthur (2nd), Stephen Caserta (3rd), Ryan O'Connor (3rd), Devon LaFranco (4th), Kevin Hernandez (4th), Jon Patane (4th) and Peter Sutton (4th).
The JV wrestlers have been having an outstanding season as well. The boys took 1st as a team at the Morris County JV Tournament with Michael LaRusso getting an award for the quickest pins and Craig Roumes get the OW award. Five Gaels finished the season strong at the final JV tournament at Newton. Congrats to Tommy Manca, Justin Bacilo, Tanner Morgan, RJ Day and Aaron Sanchez on taking first in their respective weight classes!
The Jr Gaels Tri County team has been having an outstanding season as well and are currently at 11-1 on the season so far with their only loss coming to a strong Phillipsburg team. All Jr Gaels turned out in force for Recognition Night at the RHS v Mendham match to see the Gaels send Mendham packing with a final score of 57-3.
Both the Jr. Gaels and RHS wrestlers took on Randolph at the end of January in a matchup of the fiercest rivals in Morris County. All Roxbury teams (including JV) won their respective matches. The matches were held in conjunction with another successful Rivals Takedown Hunger Food Drive. This was the 5th Annual drive. The RHS Interact Club sent volunteers to help collect and box up the food donations which were then taken to the Interfaith Food Pantry by the Gaels wrestlers.
On a final note for the month, kudos to RHS Gael Dillon Artigliere on being named the High School Top Performer of the Week by the Star Ledger/NJ.com! Dillon, who placed 5th in the state last year, is currently ranked 2nd in the state at 160 lbs with a record of 28-0. Read more here.
December 2012
Congratulations to the Roxbury Gaels on their first place finish at the Dover Holiday Tournament on Saturday, December 15, 2012. The Gaels had 8 wrestlers in the finals with Stephen Caserta, Devon LaFranco, Kevin Hernandez, Jake Legotte, Jon Patane, Dillon Artigliere and Stephen Arthur taking home gold and Peter Sutton taking silver. Tanner Morgan and Stephen Satmaria took home bronze medals.
On Thursday, December 27th, the Gaels traveled to Sussex County for the Kittatinny Cougar Classic Tournament. Overall, Roxbury placed second in the tournament behind a very strong showing of six Gaels in the finals.
The JV wrestlers have been having much success as well taking home many gold medals at Dover, Kittatinny and our own JV Tournament at Roxbury. Check out the action at the Roxbury JV Tournament here.
December has been a very busy month all around. In addition to a heavy practice, tournament and match schedule, the Gaels have made a couple of trips to Roxbury Social Services to help spread some holiday cheer. See the pictures here.
The RHS wrestlers also run a clinic each year for kindergarteners and first graders looking for their first taste of grappling. Some of our high school boys started their wrestling careers in this same clinic. Some photos from the Friday clinic sessions can be found here.

Former Roxbury standouts Anthony Dattolo and CJ Caserta wrestled against each other for the first time recently. Anthony moved up two spots to sixth at 149 in the latest individual national rankings for Division III college wrestling. Randolph Superbowl JV Tournament - 1/9/11
The RHS JV wrestlers did Roxbury proud this past weekend. The Gaels won the Randolph Superbowl Tournament by a substantial margin and beat over 20 other teams! There were a number of first, second and third place finishes to help the Gaels finish up on top by over 50 points more than the 2nd place team. Way to go, boys!

The 2011 Roxbury JV Wrestling Tournament was held on Sunday, January 2nd. Fourteen schools brought wrestlers to the event. The competition was excellent and some hard fought matches were contested.

RIVALS TAKEDOWN HUNGER 3rd Annual Food Drive to benefit the Interfaith Food Pantry serving Morris County
Roxbury vs Randolph Wrestling Match
A major victory for the Gaels vs. their cross town rivals! Roxbury showed 6 Randolph grapplers what the ceiling looks like while the Rams managed 4 victories in the 49-23 win! GO GAELS! 1-0 and a tourney first place finish. The Gaels have some tough opponents this year and are off to a great start!
The JV wrestlers were just as successful in handling Randolph and finished with an impressive win. The Jr. Gaels wrestled first and also finished up on top. All in all it was a good night for Roxbury.
As for the food drive... In this challenging economy, folks stepped up and donated over 1,000 lbs of food to the Interfaith Food Pantry! Awesome job Randolph and Roxbury Fans!

The Interfaith Food Pantry is a non-denominational, non-profit organization helping families make ends meet by supplementing their monthly groceries in times of need. The Pantry located on West Hanover Avenue in Morristown, provides food and groceries to eligible Morris County residents. The Pantry is currently distributing 56,000 pounds of food each month. Pantry clients are low-income working families, senior citizens, people with disabilities, the unemployed and families in crisis. For more information, visit the Pantry website at www.mcifp.org.

Dover Holiday Tournament - 12/18/2010
The Roxbury Gaels had an impressive outing with 4 Varsity Champs-Devon LaFranco, Joey Mazza, Tim Garripoli and Joey Shadel and 4 second place finishes-Nick Bautz, Alex Poggi, David Schubiger and Mike Mahoney! More details/photos to follow. JV's also kicked butt with several 1st place finishes. Again, details to follow. Both JV and varsity teams won their respective Tourneys! Congrats Rox! Great Job!!

The 2010 Roxbury Rumble Wrestling Tournament was hosted by the Jr. Gaels on Sunday, December 12 for all K-8 wrestlers. The competition was tough and some hard fought matches were wrestled. All 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in the Open portion of the tournament qualified for the Ohio Tournament of Champions.

Roxbury Wrestlers Doing Well in College Ranks
Roger Williams University sophomore Philip Ernst (RHS 2009) was named Pilgrim League Wrestler of the Week and RWU Male Athlete of the Week for his victory in the 184 lb. weight class at the Doug Parker Invitational Tournament hosted by Springfield College Saturday 11/20.
Wilkes University junior wrestler Anthony Dattolo (RHS 2008) is currently ranked 9th in the nation at 149 lbs in Division 3. His record is currently 5-0.
Muhlenberg sophomore Matt Parker (RHS 2009), who won only one bout all of last year, had his best day as a Mule, pinning back-to-back opponents in a combined 1:37 in the 141 consolation bracket at the Ursinus Fall Brawl.
Freshman CJ Caserta (RHS 2010) has a 10-6 record including 4 pins at Stevens Institute of Technology.

2010 SJWA War at the Shore National Folkstyle Championships - Wildwood, NJ 4/2-4/3
The War is over! A large crew of Roxbury Jr. Gael and RHS wrestlers attended this outstanding national tournament. This year's tournament seemed to be the toughest and most grueling yet. An excellent time was had by both the wrestlers and their families. The comraderie of all the families having fun and cheering all the wrestlers on was amazing! This year, a total of 21 wrestlers competed with our largest high school showing yet. We look forward to seeing even more Jr. Gaels and RHS wrestlers attending this event in the future.

Coaches and Parents,
Thank you for all the time and effort which resulted in a successful tournament.
I would like to especially like to the thank everyone that worked the head table. That was a great job keeping the mats running all day with no delay and remaining calm under a few tense moments. A lot of prep time went into this event from Fran Day handling the volunteer schedule to Amy Artigliere handling everything outside the gym. I cannot begin to count the number of times parents were done with their scheduled shift and would ask me what can they do next to help.
And a HUGE THANK YOU TO Jim Dolan and the Roxbury High School wrestlers for all their hard work from setting up the mats and running the score tables to the break down. That might have been a record for set up time.
We have a great wrestling community and I truly believe we are ONE BIG FAMILY!
Again thank you to all, the tournament could not be successful without the help of all of the volunteers.

2008 Roxbury Rumble Wrestling Tournament, Roxbury - 12/14/08
The tournament ran a little longer than expected, however, the competition was fierce and some hard fought matches were wrestled. All 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in the Open portion of the tournament qualified for the Ohio Tournament of Champions.
A huge thank you to to all parents, wrestlers, coaches and friends that helped out at the tournament. Thank you to Coach Jim Dolan and the RHS wrestlers for all their help and support. We couldn't have done it without you!

Battle for the Belt, Bridgewater, NJ - 12/7/08
A "slew" of Roxbury wrestlers traveled to visit our friends in Bridgewater and wrestle in this very competitive tournament. Five Jr. Gaels made it to the finals with two taking home the prestigous belt.

Randolph Thanksgiving Team Tournament - 11/30/08
The Roxbury Jr. Gaels Varsity wrestlers made some noise this weekend in their first team tournament in recent history. It was a long day in a hot gym but the boys wrestled their hearts out. Roxbury took 4th place out of 14 teams behind some powerful teams from Jackson, Montville and Phillipsburg. Great job, boys!

Ohio Tournament of Champions - Columbus, OH 4/25-26/08
A large crowd of wrestlers made the annual journey to Ohio. This year a stop was made in Canton to see the NFL Hall of Fame. Another great clinic was held in the Ohio State wrestling room. This year's clinic was run by OSU Head Coach Tom Ryan. Congrats to Dillion Artigliere on taking 2nd in the largest one day national tournament. Timmy Garripoli and Phil Ernst both placed by taking 7th in their respective divisions.

2008 SJWA War at the Shore National Folkstyle Championships - Wildwood, NJ 3/21-3/22
This was the biggest and best showing of Roxbury wrestlers at this national tournament so far. Thirteen Jr. Gaels and RHS wrestlers traveled to the southern end of the Garden State Parkway to wrestle at the War. Even with some stacked brackets, two wrestlers made it to the finals and two more placed. All wrestlers had some competitive bouts with quality competition. A good time was had by all wrestlers and families that attended as we had a chance to have fun and even get some dancing in (please send photos if you have them). Somehow, Coach Ralph made it through a marathon weekend of coaching without losing his voice. Great job guys - can't wait to do it again next year!

Guest speakers were Jim Dolan - Coach of the 2008 District 2 and Iron Hills Conference-Iron Division Champion RHS Wrestling Team, Zac Garripoli - 2008 Morris County Champion, District 2 Champion, Region 1 Runner Up and NJ State Qualifier and Anthony Datallo - 2008 Morris County Champion, District 2 Champion, Region 1 Runner Up and NJ State Placewinner.

2007 SJWA War at the Shore - Wildwood, NJ 4/6-7/07
Nine Jr. Gaels and RHS wrestlers went down the shore to wrestle in the War. There were no medalists but with outstanding efforts by all, the Roxbury boys wrestled fairly deep into the brackets with a total of 37 bouts. A good time was had by all wrestlers and families that attended even with some logistics problems that caused longer than expected days of wrestling. Great job guys and thanks for a fun weekend!
