Weather Cancellation Procedures

Game Cancellation Reminder - Games cancelled for whatever reason, including weather, will not be rescheduled by the league.

IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE COACHES TO COMMUNICATE CANCELED GAMES WITH OPPOSING COACHES AND REFEREES. Coaches or school coordinators are also responsible for rescheduling canceled games.

School Closings

When a school is closed by its principal for the school day, the games scheduled for that team are cancelled. The coach of the closed school is responsible to communicate with their opponent, the league administrator and head referee to make sure that all parties are aware the school has been closed and, therefore, the game cancelled. Please do not assume that everyone is aware that there has been a school closing. This should be done by phone or text rather than email.  If you cannot reach the coach, you may try the school main office or church rectory for assistance.

Contact the Referees - Coaches must coordinate with the league head referee on all cancellations - George Markey - 716-629-8522 and cell 716-912-3409 - umpiregm@hotmail.com. If a game cancellation is not properly coordinated with referees the schools involved will be responsible for the cost of the cancelled game.

Inclimate Weather When Schools Are Open

When schools have not been closed by a principal for the school day, but weather has turned difficult later in the day, it is the decision of the host location on whether or not to proceed with the games that evening. Non-host schools can provide their opinion to the host, but should not just decide that their team will not be playing that evening.   A past example of the trouble that can ensue in these situations occurred when a school that was not hosting games cancelled their school’s after-school activities, and then informed their players that their away basketball game that evening had been cancelled. In fact, their game had not been cancelled. This left us with teams at the host school location not having an opponent, when their venue was open to host the games. In summary, each school controls their own venue if a school has been open for the school day.  Decisions made later in the day will need to be communicated through phone/text contact.  Please include George Markey on all communications so that referees can be cancelled if necessary.

Rescheduling

When a game has been canceled it is the responsibility of the coaches or school coordinators to reschedule the canceled games directly and with the league referees.
