SHEDIAC MINOR SOCCER ASSOCIATION
TEAM FORMATION U11 AND OLDER
In order to have a fair and transparent team selection process, the Shediac Minor Soccer Association has established the following policy. This policy only applies to the Under 11 and older age groups. Due to the variance of the number of players registered per age group and gender from season to season, the policy is divided in 3 scenarios.
Scenario #1: Enough players for one single team
In the case that an age group has just the right number of registered players to form one single team, no tryouts and/or evaluations will be necessary. Team practices will therefore commence a bit later in May.
If ever there are still a few spots left on the roster after the deadline, the executive committee could choose to keep the registration open (a late fee will be applied if so). Players are selected as they register until the maximum number of players is reached.
Scenario #2: Enough players for more than one team (U11 & U13 age groups)
If there are enough players registered to form more than one team before the registration deadline, the Association can choose to either hold AA tryouts (if numbers support this) or simply divide players equally into several A teams. There will be an evaluation process to help with the selection / division of teams.
Please note … Each team will be given a fair number of players to balance the number of players per team. If teams are not full and more players register after the deadline, the late registered player will be evaluated and put on one of the A teams.
Scenario #3: Not enough players to form one team
If ever an age group does not have enough registered players to complete a team’s roster by the deadline, the association will look at the possibility of either
1- combining our players with players from a neighboring association, or
2- merging two of our age groups together to form one “older age group” team (if calibre supports this).
In the case that these options are not possible, the age group (or groups) will then be forced to fold.
