Shootout/Tournament Rules
Game rules: We will use CIF rules plus ten second back court violation. 12u Boys and older will use 29.5 regulation men’s basketball. 11u and under and all girls’ games will use 28.5 regulation basketball. Two Free throws will be granted at 10 team fouls within the half.
18-minute Running Clock – (2) 18-minute running clock halves. During the last two minutes of the game, if the point spread is less than 10 points the clock will be stopped on all dead balls.
Overtime – An overtime period will consist of two (2) minutes of regulation play (Stop Clock). After two overtimes sudden death will be enforced in the third overtime.
Timeouts – Each team will have THREE (3) timeouts per game. Each timeout will be 30 seconds. One (1) additional time out will be granted per overtime period. Time outs do not carry over into overtime.
Warm up – Pre-game (3 minutes) and half-time (2 minutes). Pre-game warm-up and halftime may be limited due to time restraints.
Jersey – All teams must wear a basketball jersey uniform, shorts and tennis shoes. The home team is the first team listed. The home team should wear light colored jerseys.
Tie Breaker System:
a) Head-to-Head Play – The team that wins the head-to-head competition between the two teams will move on.
b) Point System – A point differential system (among all the teams) will be used if three or more teams are tied. Teams will receive a maximum of + or - 15 points. The team with the most positive points will be in 1st place then 2nd place and etc. If two teams are still tied, they would revert to the first tie breaker system.
c) Coin Toss
Player Eligibility – Age/Grade is based on September 1, 2026. A player should not be older and/or in a grade higher than the division he is playing in up to September 1, 2026. Example 12u/6th Grade Division - all players must be 12 years old and in the 6th grade, 7th graders would be ineligible.
Challenges – Challenges must be initiated prior to the game. Challenges cost $50.00 per challenge, but if you (the challenger) are correct, the team challenged must not allow that player to compete and the challenger will receive their $50.00 back. Once the challenge has been made, the proof of burden is on the challenged coach. If the challenged coach shows proof (a school photo ID or class photo/yearbook), we will reward the challenged coach by giving him the $50.00. Report cards and/or birth certificates are acceptable.
Playing on more than one team – Players are allowed to play on two teams if they are in different divisions. The opposing coach must protest at the start of the game. Exceptions to these rules may be allowed if arranged in advance with the tournament director.
Conduct – All coaches are responsible for the behavior of their team and parents. The conduct of players and coaches should be above reproach both on and off the court. Any misbehavior or misconduct, on or off the court, will be subject to individual and/or team disqualification from the tournament.
All protests will be heard by the tournament director. All decisions made by the director are final.
