Player and Team Selections
The NOHL is a recreational adult league for players over 30 years of age. It is intended for and consisting of mostly B and C level ice hockey players. The NOHL reserves the right of player selection. The NOHL Commissioners may introduce players outside of these criteria for consideration as they deem necessary, so long as they can ensure that the selections will not disrupt league or team balance.
Team Rosters
All rosters are decided on by the captains and NOHL Commissioners from a list of approved players. All decisions must be within the guidelines and intent of the NOHL structure. The Commissioners reserve full rights on split decisions, team balance, and deciding intent of NOHL rule.
Jerseys
Teams are encouraged to obtain jersey sponsors. If a team decided to update their current uniforms, they must have the main color approved by the NOHL Commissioners before said jerseys are made.
Rules and Regulations
The NOHL is governed by USA Hockey rules and restrictions for game play. The NOHL as a division of CCYHA is also governed by CCYHA Policies and Responsibilities, and CCYHA Bylaws.
Excessive Accumulation of Penalty Minutes
Any player that accumulates more than three (3) penalties (minor, major, misconduct or combination of thereof) in one game will be suspended from play for the remainder of the current game. Suspension will not carry over to following game.
Excessive Misconduct Penalties
Any player assessed four (4) misconduct or game misconduct penalties during a single season shall be suspended for their teams next scheduled game. Additionally, the player’s eligibility for continued league participation will be evaluated by the team captains and commissioners.
Fighting
Any player that is assessed a Major Penalty under USA Hockey rule (Fisticuffs-Fighting) shall be suspended for a minimum of three (3) games to be served consecutively. Under second assessment of a Major Penalty under USA Hockey rule, the player shall be suspended a minimum of five (5) games to be served consecutively. All fighting penalties will be reviewed by the NOHL commissioners, and the player’s eligibility to continue participation in the league will be evaluated at that time.
Alcohol/Controlled Substances
Participation under the influence of alcohol or any other controlled substance is strictly prohibited. Should a player appear intoxicated, the officials are required to report the player to the league commissioners. At that point the commissioners will determine what type of action is required.
If at any point a player appearing intoxicated is deemed to be a danger to himself or other players, the officials may, without question, eject the player.
Goals
Each skater is permitted to only score 4 goals per game. If a player scores a 5th goal, the goal will be waved off, and the face-off will be held at the opposite end of the ice.
Games
Regular season games consist of (2) 15minute and (1) 20minute running clock periods.
Playoff games consist of (3) 15minute running clock periods leaving ample time if a shootout is necessary.
- Playoff Shootout Format(No Overtime)
- If a game is tied at the end of regulation, a three man shoot-out will be held to determine a winner. Highest seeded team has the option to shoot first. If after the first three shooters, the score is still tied, a sudden death mode shoot-out (one skater from each team) shall continue until a winner is determined. (*The game cannot end until each team has taken the same number of shots.) All skaters on the players’ bench are required to shoot before a player may shoot for a second time.
- NOTE: Any player serving a penalty at the end of regulation play is NOT eligible to participate in the shootout.
Clock Operation and Scoresheet
Clock and score sheet are the responsibility of the Home team.
