Oly Fire has some exciting news!!! A new (and SUPER easy) fundraising option has been added to our list of possibilities to support the Oly Fire organization!!
We all shop and eat out right? Just by doing those two things you can raise money for the organization in order to help cover operational costs!! Easy as that!!
The program is called Great Lakes Scrip Center, or Scrip for short. The program offers gift cards from over 700 retailers, such as Wal-Mart, Dairy Queen, Dick’s Sporting Goods, etc. When you purchase a gift card through our non-profit organization, Oly Fire can earn up to a 15% rebate on each gift card purchase. For example, I purchase a $100 Dick’s Sporting Goods gift card. Dick’s gives back 8% to the non-profit organization, so $8. Each retailer offers different percentages back, but in the end it all adds up quickly!! The work is in planning ahead. Instead of paying with cash or credit, pay with a gift card.
Let’s talk through a few scenarios. J
- Staying in a hotel for a softball tournament? Book your hotel based on retailers that you can purchase gift cards for through Scrip. For example, staying in a hotel for 2 nights may cost around $250. Book a room at Courtyard by Marriott, purchase gifts cards and Oly Fire gets 7% back, which is $17.50. If one team stays there and has 15 rooms, Oly Fire would get back over $260! Now that we have this program in place, let’s consider this option for booking blocks of rooms for our tournaments! Great and easy money maker!!
- Buying groceries? Several of our chains are available to purchase gift cards for. Personally, I like to shop at Jewel-Osco, which offers a 4% back. There are options to add local grocers as well, which I will be looking into once we have the program up and running.
- Christmas shopping? I love to give gift cards for teacher gifts, kids that I have no idea what to buy for, etc. Purchase all your gift cards through Scrip! My daughter’s pre-school offered the Scrip program. During that time I would even reach out to my circle of friends asking if they want a ‘one stop shop’ for buying their Christmas gift cards. I put an order in for over $1500 worth of gift cards once! That was a huge amount of money that went back to the school. Convenient for my friends….easy money for the school!!!!
- Buying a new appliance? Purchase your store cards through Scrip then purchase the appliance with your gift cards! Big ticket items are great to buy with these gift cards!!!
- Eating out on the run? Keep gift cards for your favorite stops with you!
The options are endless!! To tell you how easy it is, I asked for a few guinea pigs to sign up. The first person ordered $100 worth of gift cards last night which gave $15.70 back to Oly Fire.
The Scrip website also has a calculator to show earning potential for an organization. I plugged in 60 families with an average monthly spending amount of $940, and if we used gift cards to pay for those expenditures the earning potential is as follows:

Now, paying for everything with gift cards may be stretching it a bit for each family. However, if you can just buy your groceries with gift cards our organization can receive back around $8600!!
Scrip is making the program easier and more convenient all the time! You can do all your ordering online, pay online and reload many of the cards online!
Here is how to Enroll!
Setting Up membership Account (It takes about 10 minutes)
- Please go to the website, www.shopwithscrip.com
- In the green box, “Family Sign up” on the left, create an account.
- Follow the 5 steps filling in the appropriate information and click on I Accept.
- You will be prompted to do 2 security questions for future reference.
- Enter the enrollment code for the school and click “join.”
- Code: 6C146A1L39595
- Your membership will appear. Please follow the next step.
Setting Up electronic online payment.
- On the left side tool bar, click on the tab “PrestoPay” and read about this feature and click on “yes, I agree”.
- Then enter your debit (checking or savings) account information, and the verification code at the bottom. (It is suggested that you use a checking account due to limitations of the number of withdrawals on savings accounts. The routing and account numbers are at the bottom of a check for the account.) Click next.
- Within 1-2 business days, to verify your account, PrestoPay will send two small deposits. Write the amounts down. Then go to www.shopwithscrip.com , login in the orange membership box. At the top of the page will be a message to verify your account, click on the here button and write in the 2 digit amounts with no decimals.
- Once you verify the account, a 4 digit code will be given to you which you send to the coordinator Heather Martin by email (turnergirls7@gmail.com). Once she enters the code to approve it, you will then be able to order gift cards from hundreds of national retailers.
Note: Presto pay also allows you to “reload” some cards and to print out some electronic gift cards which can be used immediately.
Placing Orders
- You can place your order at any time online.
- For those gift cards that you receive electronically, those will be ready for immediate use!
- For those gift cards that you will receive physically…..Once a week the scrip coordinator, myself, will ‘release’ the orders. This means I have verified all orders have been paid for.
- If you would rather not place your order online, please email me your order at turnergirls7@gmail.com. We can discuss arrangements for payment at that time.
Order Deadlines
- Orders will be placed every Friday by 3:00. This means your orders must be placed online by noon on Friday.
- The gift cards will be mailed within 24 hours to the scrip coordinator who will then be in contact with you for delivery.
Please take time to consider this fund raising option. Like I said, easy and you aren’t beating the bushes to sell anything to anyone. You simply spend what you would normally spend and the organization gets money back!!
