Evaluations
Evaluations are held annually to assess skill levels of the players and ensure teams are balanced for the player draft. Evaluations are held before the Spring Season begins in the beginning of January.
Practices
Once teams are formed, your player's coach will contact you with practice information based on their availability.
Practices are usually held at Winifred Pifer Elementary or Barney Schwartz Park twice per week, and generally begin the week after team selection.
*Please note that coaches must complete background clearance before practices can start.
Games
6U - 1x per week, Saturdays
8U - 14/16U - 2x a week—one on Saturday and one weekday (Tuesday through Thursday).
Game schedules are created by USA Softball Central Coast and are usually released shortly before (or occationally right after) Opening Day in March, as they coordinate schedules among all of the local leagues (that play each other).
The season schedule will include a break during Spring Break, possibly a Mid-Season Tournament, and an End of Season Tournament.
Opening Day
Opening Day will be a Saturday in March. The day includes a banner parade early in the morning followed by the first games of the season.
Picture Day
The date varies every year but typically is right around Opening Day. Your coach or team parent will have more information when a date is confirmed.
Uniforms
Uniform shirts and a basic black visor are included with registration. Each team’s parent volunteer typically coordinates optional items such as socks, hair bows, and a sweatshirt, which would be an additional cost. Your player will need softball pants and cleats.
Equipment
Most players bring their own glove, helmet (with face mask) and bat, though we do have equipment available to borrow if needed. Catcher’s gear is provided to the coach upon their request. Face masks are recommended for all infielders. Take advantage of our player's closet during evaluations where you can bring gear, and equiptment to enchange or donate to another.
Additional Expenses
Team parents often organize optional items such as the team swag, a banner, and an end-of-season coach gift. None of these are mandatory, but typical for a season.
Rain Policy
Rain frustratingly impacts our schedule each year. Paso Robles Rec (who we rent field space from) requires 24 rain-free hours before Barney Schwartz fields can be used. We typically follow the same guidelines for Pifer. For games in other cities, that league determines whether play will continue if fields are wet. We will do our best to notify familes as soon as we possibly can if rain is going to cancel practices, games or league events.
