2017 REGULAR SEASON RULES ALL AGE DIVISIONS

April 18, 2017

8U REGULAR SEASON RULES

a. An 11”ASA approved ball is played.

b. No arc on pitch - keep pitch/arc below batter’s head. Coach in circle - 1 foot on pitcher mound 30ft

c. Coach pitch – 6 pitches - 4 balls, 2 strikes unless last pitch is foul then at bat continues, no walks.

d. The coach pitching from the rubber will not act as a fielder and will make a reasonable effort to move out of the way for the defense and to not interfere with the play.

e. The batter will be out after 3 strikes or after 6 pitches, whichever occurs first.  Except if the 6th pitch or succeeding pitches are fouled, the batter is still alive.  There will be NO WALKS.

f. Players fielding from the pitchers position MUST be within the pitchers circle.

g. If the coach is hit by a batted ball, the ball is dead and the batter is awarded 1st base.  All runners advance one base whether they are forced or not.

h. No bunting!

i. Runners may not leave the base until the ball is hit.  A violation will result in the runner being returned to their base.  There is NO LEADING OFF OR STEALING!

j. When a ball is hit, base runners that are not forced may wait until the ball is fielded and thrown to a base before they advance. The runners must leave the base while the thrown ball is in the air or rolling to the intended base.

k.  NO ADVANCEMENT ON OVERTHROWS!

l. On a batted ball to the outfield all runners may advance until the defense throws the ball toward the infield and the ball breaks the base path plane. Once the ball breaks the plane runners that are running to a base may continue to that base (with a chance of getting thrown out) and once the base is reached they must stop. The base plane continues through the base and into the foul ball territory, so if an attempt to throw to a base is made, but goes in foul territory, the runners must stop at the base they are running to.

m. Teams will be allowed to play 10 defensive players on the field.  If 10 defensive players are used, 4 of these players must be positioned in the OUTFIELD AT LEAST 10 FEET BEHIND EACH BASE/BASE LINE. The outfield MUST be marked with a 10’ line behind baseline.

n. A team may set the batting order any way it wishes, but must bat through the entire roster before the leadoff batter can bat again (continuous batting order).  There will be no penalty for a player that is unable to take her turn at bat due to injury unless the line-up falls below 9 players.

o. Continuous batting allows freedom of defensive substitution.

p. The defense may have up to two coaches in the outfield to audibly coach the defense.  Coaches may not touch a player or the ball at any time while the ball is live.  A third coach may stand against the backstop to assist the catcher with balls that are missed from the machine to help save time.

q. The infield fly rule and dropped 3rd strike rule are not in effect.

r. Rubber cleats are allowed. (No metal)

10U REGULAR SEASON RULES

 a. An 11” ASA approved ball is played.  The red stitch ball is permitted if approved by the league.

b. The pitching rubber is 35 feet from the back of home plate.

c. The team with the least amount of players MUST use continuous batting order in regular season play without a penalty for a player not being able to take her turn at bat due to injury, unless the line-up falls below 9 players.  The team with the most players may choose to bat the same amount as their opponent but this will eliminate free substitution or they may bat entire line-up (continuous batting) with free substitution.

d. Players may only steal 2nd and 3rd base in this age group. Base runners may not leave their base until the pitcher has released the ball.

e. A player is only allowed to steal one base per pitch.

f. A runner may lead off 3rd base as soon as the pitcher releases the ball. If an attempt on the runner is made at 3rd the runner may advance home, if safe the runner will be put back on 3rd base (because runners cannot steal home in this division).  If the runner on 3rd is tagged out, then it will be counted as an out.

g. If a batter receives a walk, that player may not steal 2nd base until the first pitch to the next batter is thrown.
