Game 2....Mulligan's Sports Bar....9....Bowser Pontiac....8

Daily News Staff Writer
The best game of the season produced a little bit of everything. There were clutch hits, six home runs and a couple of defensive gems. When Game 2 of the DNL semifinals between Bowser Pontiac and Mulligan’s Sports Bar finally concluded, one dramatic moment after another produced a stirring victory for the home team. Thanks to a couple of clutch hits from Andre Hayden and Brad Yeschenko, Mulligan’s evened the best-of-five series with a 9-8 victory at Winklevoss Field. The final inning showcased a number of memorable moments. With two outs in the top of the seventh inning, Jeff Pingor launched a home run to center field that gave the Twins an 8-7 advantage. The Brewers, however, responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Bowser starter Jeff Griner pitched into the final inning but was removed when Tim Donnelly led off by reaching first base on an error. Bowser manager Andy Brettschneider decided to replace Griner with Lou Kammermeier at this point. Kammermeier pitched all six innings in yesterday’s Game 1 victory but, in a typically gutsy move, showed no regard for his arm health. Arriving in street clothes midway through the game, Kammermeier pronounced himself ready to pitch. The move appeared to work when Kammermeier forced Jim Samolovich into a ground-out and struck out the following batter for the inning’s second out. Then came the game’s most interesting moment. Samolovich had advanced to second base on a wild pitch earlier in the inning, representing the game-tying run at second base. It is believed Bowser shortstop Jim Onder suggested Kammermeier intentionally walk Jordan Abromovitz, which is precisely what happened. The decision was made so that the right-handed Kammermeier could face the right-handed Hayden. Kammermeier immediately found himself ahead in the count, 0-2, but Hayden lined a single to center. Kevin Abraham threw a rocket home but Samolovich barely beat the throw to even the game. Brad Yeschenko, the DNL veteran who is a co-owner of Mulligan’s, followed by lining a single to right field that scored Abromovitz, who had advanced to third during the previous sequence. Yeschenko’s single almost struck Hayden. Mulligan’s starting pitcher Tim Miller and reliever Dave Muller - along with Griner - were perfectly solid. But make no mistake, this game was all about offense. Tim Donnelly, the DNL’s most feared slugger, hit a two-run blast in the bottom of the first to give the Brewers a 2-0 lead. Bowser slugger Corey Rodgers hit a homer of his own the following inning to cut the lead in half. Bowser took a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning. Dan Lippert’s ground ball scored one run and Onder’s two-run single gave the Twins a 4-2 lead. However, Miller struck out the next two Bowser batters to avoid more damage. The Twins left runners at second and third with one out in the second inning, also. Mulligan’s reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth thanks to back-to-back home runs from Nahay and Abromovitz and Mike Neckerman’s sacrifice fly. Bowser responded in the fifth when Pingor, Lippert and Dalaine Ofchinick belted consecutive run-scoring hits to give the Twins a 7-6 advantage. Samolovitch, however, responded with a home run to tie the game with two outs in the sixth.

Game 3....Bowser Pontiac....12....Mulligan's Sports Bar....3
A 6 run first inning was all that Jim Onder needed as he went the distance in the victory for Bowser over Mulligan's. Five different Bowser batters had 2 hits each to lead the Twins offense, Jon Mills (2 doubles and a rbi), Dan Lippert (double and 4 rbis), Anthony Miller (double and 2 rbis), Corey Rodgers (double and rbi) and Onder. Brad Yeschenko had 3 hits (double) and Jim Samolovich had 2 hits (double) to lead Mulligan's.

Game 4....Mulligan's Sports Bar....10....Bowser Pontiac....2
Game 4 got off to the same start as did game 3 with the home team having a big inning. Mulligan's put 5 on the board right away, getting doubles that drove in 2 runs each from Brad Yeschenko and Tim Donnelly. Yeschenko continued swinging a hot bat, going 3-3 (home run and double) with 4 rbis and 3 runs scored. Also for Mulligan's, Tony Kutscher had 2 hits and 2 rbis. Chris Douglas was in control on the mound for the Brewers allowing just 5 hits and 1 earned run while recording 5 strike outs in the complete game victory. Kevin Abraham had 2 hits, an rbi and a run scored for Bowser.

Game 5....Bowser Pontiac 8....Mulligan's Sports Bar....3
Anthony Miller's 3 run homer in the 5th inning broke open a close game and put Bowser on top 7-1. Jim Samolovich and Tim Donnelly hit back to back homers in the 6th for Mulligan's, but Bowser held on to move onto the finals where they will be looking for their 5th consecutive league title. Lou Kammermeier got the complete game victory, his 2nd of the series as he pitched out of jams in the 1st and 3rd innings when Mulligan's stranded 5 base runners. He allowed 6 hits, 2 earned run and walked just 1. At the plate, the Twins got 2 hits each from Miller (5 rbis), Jim Onder (2 doubles and 2 runs), Dan Lippert (2 doubles) and Jared Frey (2 rbis). Samolovich had 2 hits for Mulligan's.
