SHOT PUT
In this drill, your athletes will be putting
a medicine ball for height and distance.
It's a great way to test whether they are using a
good trajectory.
Before you begin, create a crossbar by
suspending tubing between 2 high jump
or pole vault standards (2-3 m above the ground).
Have your athletes throw the medicine ball over the
crossbar from a close distance.
If they succeed, have them take 2 paces backward
and try again.
Whoever ends up farthest from the standards wins :-)
Coaching Tips:
-Remind your athletes to extend their legs
and push their chest upwards as they throw.
-Be sure your athletes use their legs, back, and
chest BEFORE using their throwing arm, not
afterwards
