SA Panthers lose 5-4 in 9 innings in Regional Quarter Final

April 30, 2015

SA making their first appearance in the Class 4A Regionals traveled to American Heritage- Delray and played their hearts out as they battled the whole game. They faced Under Armour All-American 6'8 lefty Hunter Bowling who has an impressive fastball that gets up to 94 MPH and also possesses a hard breaking ball. The Panthers got on the board in the first but the Stallions answered back with one. Delray was able to plate 3 runs in the 3rd and had a 4-1 lead till the 7th when the Panthers were able to put a rally together and tied the game at 4 with no outs and runners on 1st and 2nd but we could not capitalize and the game went to extra innings. The Panthers had 7 errors in the game and allowed 3 un-earned runs. Brandon Valentin was magnificent on the mound, he went 8 innings and shutout the Stallions from the fourth to the eighth innings. Kenny Moreno-Costa had our biggest hit when he hit a line drive past the diving shortstop to drive in 2 runs in the 7th to tie the game.

This was the last game of our best season so far. The game could of gone either way. We played a tough team with a great pitcher. We played a great schedule and play in a tough district and regional. The stats will show that every single player on the team got better this year than from the previous year, most averages went up over .100. Hitting approaches and execution got better. Pitchers that had never pitched varsity did well. Fielding was better, base running was better (team stole 60 out of 63). We would like to thank all the seniors for their dedication and commitment and we wish you the best of luck in college.
