Potter/Tioga held its annual scheduling/registration meeting on March 21st.  Towns in attendance were Sabinsinville, Elkland, Knoxville, Gold, Harrison Valley and Galeton, Lawrenceville could not attend.  All registration with Director Dave Persing is complete, towns will still have to go online and register the players individually.  Schedules are also complete and given to each town.
The towns also met and changed the 8U and 10U league rules for the 2010 season.  These new league rules can be seen by clicking the link in the upper left hand corner.
The next meeting will be held April 25th at 2:00 pm in the Sabinsville Fire Hall.  Anyone interested in attending is welcome.  The towns will have to bring their fee's for the World Series and their half of the cost for league trophies/awards to this meeting.
The last business discussed was this year the Potter/Tioga will bring back the 10U league tournament.  It will be held May 15th at the Harrison Valley ball fields.  Towns drew numbers from a hat for placement.  The bracket is complete and the tournament is set.  Each town will bring an umpire with them.  No rain date is set.

As another season is just around the corner it has come time to start planning.  The first 2010 Potter/Tioga meeting will be held Feb, 28th at the Sabinsville Fire Hall.  There is lots of new business to be discussed and officer elections shall be held at the first meeting of every year.  Hope to see you all there.

Potter/Tioga had another successful season.  Several age groups placed 5th or higher at the World Series.  We will start planning the 2010 season in January.  Meeting request should be sent out around the 1st of the year.  Thanks again to all the towns, coaches and players and we look forward to seeing you again next season.

The next Potter/Tioga meeting will be on May 17th at 5:00 pm in the Sabinsville Fire Hall Meeting Room.  We will discuss the 2009 Corning World Series and additional Tournaments.  You will need to bring your ASA team Players Registration form you received during the on line registration process.  Also a check or cash covering your entry fee for each age group you wish to send to the WS this year.  Checks can be made out to the SGSA.

Potter/Tioga Association History

 Un-officially formed 3-06

Officially formed 5-06 under the Amateur Softball Association of Pennsylvania

At that time we registered are league as the Potter/Tioga Softball Association with the state of PA and the ASA.

PA is divided into 16 Districts with each district having it own District Commissioner & Staff.

The Potter/Tioga Association fell under District 4, our Commissioner is David Persing who is from Sunbury PA.

ASA founded in 1933 is the National Governing body of softball in the United States and a member of the United States Olympic Committee. Today the ASA has over 240,000 teams and represents over 3 million members.

In PA alone there is over 180 colleges/university’s that are ASA registered.

In 2006 when officially formed and recognized by PA Gregg Brown was voted by members present and then appointed by Dave Persing as our Northern Tier Deputy Commissioner at that time.

Shawn Ianson was voted as the Potter/Tioga President and Kristie Bowen was voted as Secretary.

The league was comprised of Sabinsville, Galeton, Gold, Knoxville and Harrison Valley.

In 2007 Elkland decided to join our league.

Depending on the amount of kids and ages that come out each year it gives us the flexibility to design the league. In 2006 the Potter/Tioga association only had 12&U and 16&U age groups, as in 2009 we now have 8&U, 10&U, 12&U and 16&U teams in the league

In 2006 the Potter/Tioga Association had ~120 girls playing in it. While in 2008 the Potter/Tioga Association had ~205 girls playing in it.

Some other towns also come in and play in inner-league games are Lawrenceville, Addison, EVPP, Elmira and Corning.

Some other towns have also showed great interest in what we are doing and considering either joining or inner-leaguing with us for games.

So we schedule league games and give out contact information to each town/association presidents and they can pick up as many games as they choose from this point.

In the first year we then started all-star teams. We have traveled to Williamsport, Wellsville, EVPP and Corning. In the future we hope to travel to these towns in addition to Bath, Olean, Sunbury, Horseheads and others.

Most likely everyone would agree that the biggest tournament in our local area would be the Corning Cinderella World Series.

"I can remember last year our first year as Potter/Tioga we got who are you? Where are you from?" I even heard this is going to be an easy win for us. So our first year in we did pretty fair. 10&U finish 6th, 12&U finished 6th and 14 finished 2nd.

This year we heard things a little bit different. Everyone I talked to commented on how well behaved the girls from Potter/Tioga were. I also heard why did we get Potter/Tioga?

Even tournament directors asked me “do you have any teams that aren’t that good?”

For 2008 10&U finished 5th, 12&U finished 3rd, 14&U finished 1st, 16&U finish 6th, and 19&U finished 6th.
