Player Profile

  • Peggy Jiantonio   #07

  • OF (RF), C, 2b

  • Peggy has been one of the team’s most dedicated and dependable players since club’s first game in April of 1996. She rarely misses games, is usually the first player to arrive at the field, and goes to the batting cages religiously throughout the year. (The only complaint concerning Peggy is that she’s a die-hard New York Yankees fan!)

Peggy was the taxmen’s original starting secondbaseman (or do you say secondbasewoman?) and played there during the 1996 and 1997 seasons. It was toward the end of 1997 that Peggy first moved to her familiar spot in right field. She would platoon with Jackie Bayot between second base and right field during the 1999 campaign, but from 2000 on, Peggy has been a fixture in the outfield. (Her 184 games played in right far surpass the next closest player, Carol Bagley, who has been in right field for a mere 64 games.)

At the plate, the left-handed hitter statistically dwarfs all players when it comes to other females on the roster. Peggy leads the ladies in all career categories with 263 games played, 192 runs scored, 196 runs batted in, 304 base hits, 28 doubles, 3 triples, and a homerun. (That was no misprint, Peggy did actually belt a homerun, which came during a 1997 game against AAA. If you’re a player on the DRS roster, you probably already knew this – Peggy is sure to remind everyone by telling the story on the bench at least once a week.)

Peggy’s best season came in 2005. Setting a team record with 111 at bats, Peggy played in 29 games, batted .423 (47-111), scored 35 runs and had 33 RBIs, and stroked 2 doubles and a triple. In a 2003 game against DPUC, Peggy went 5 for 5 and scored 3 runs. Another career highlight saw Peggy line a two-out game-winning single in the bottom of the 9th inning in a DRS walk-off win over the Broad Street Bullies.
