Merchants take two from Elks

The Jamestown Miller Lite Merchants continued to roll on Sunday, sweeping the Jamestown Elks in the North Dakota League Tournament at Jack Brown Stadium.

The Merchants, who improved to 17-4 with the sweep, posted back-to-back shutouts of 9-0 and 4-0.

Greg Lunski fired a four-hit, five-inning shutout in the opener.

The Merchants put it out of reach early with a seven-run bottom of the second, including a three-run home run by Joe Vannett.

Scott Stephenson went 2-for-3 with two RBI, a run and a stolen base.

In the second game Luke Anderson and Dan White combined to allow just six hits over seven innings. Anderson went the first 3 2/3, allowing four hits with five strikeouts.

Vannett added two more hits. White went 2-for-3 and scored his third run of the doubleheader.

The Merchants are back in action Wednesday night when they face the Fargo Bulldogs at Teamsters Field.
