Merchants sweep Bismarck Brewers

The Jamestown Miller Lite Merchants picked up their first two wins of the season last weekend.

 
The Merchants swept the Bismarck Brewers 17-7 and 6-1 on Sunday at Jack Brown Stadium, putting their record at 2-1.

 

In the opener, Scott Stephenson went 2-for-2 with a home run, four RBI and three runs scored. Joe Vannett went 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Dan Ross and Brady Anderson added two hits each for the Merchants, who scored five runs in the bottom of first, seven in third and five in the fourth. Bryan Erstad walked twice and scored three runs.

Veteran ace Greg Lunski got the win, going all five innings with six strikeouts.

In the nightcap, the Merchants struck for five runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to a 6-1 win.

Anderson led the way, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Dan Ross singled, walked twice, stole a base and scored.

Derek Zitzow allowed just one run on four hits with three strikeouts to get the win on the mound for the Merchants, who play the Fargo Expos on Wednesday before a tournament in Fargo/Moorhead on the weekend.
