The Merchants banged out 32 hits on the day and won the opener 7-6 in nine innings, while the Greyhounds totaled 20 hits and earned the split with a 16-15 victory in the nightcap.

The Merchants, now 15-6 on the season, play Mayville on Wednesday at Helling Field in Fargo.

Merchants 7, Greyhounds 6

Bryan Erstad went 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs as the Merchants won the opener in nine innings. Erstad also walked and stole a base.

Tied 6-6 through the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, the Merchants finally got the winner in the bottom of the ninth.

Jared Purdy added two hits and two RBI, while Brady Anderson also had two knocks.

Greg Lunski went all nine innings on the mound. Only one of the six runs he allowed was earned. He struck out six.

Greyhounds 16, Merchants 15

The Hounds led 16-12 entering the bottom of the seventh inning and were able to hold off a Merchants’ rally to win it, 16-15.

The Hounds scored four times in the first and fourth innings, and added three in the fifth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh.

Danny Fischer and Justin Connell were each 3-for-4 in the win.

Dan White had four hits for the Merchants, including two doubles.

Anderson, Scott Stephenson and Jeff Nold each added three hits as the Merchants pounded out 21 total.
