Mustangs Get the Ball Rolling

The Mustang softball team started its season yesterday looking like a young inexperienced team with a loss in game one against Steinmetz.

The final score was 6-2 and the Mustangs are well aware that two runs are not going to win many 16" softball games.

The Streaks didn't exactly crush the ball all over the place in game one as they put up three or four in the bottom bottom half of the fourth inning. There were errors all over the field as the Mustangs aided Steinmetz in its biggest inning of the day.

In the second game the Mustangs looked like a completely different group, yet it was the same ten players on the field...well, nine of ten stayed the same.

The horses put up seven or eight runs in the third inning and never looked back. Northside even got contributions from its reserves in the form of a base hits by Junior "Sailboat" Sam Shipley and Sophomore "Fast" John Fleming.

When all the hitting was done the Mustangs were happy to walk off the field an inning early with a 14-2 victory.

On another note...Senior Bridget Soderna made her first appearance of the year, which marked the first time anyone Coach Hohenadel has ever talked to has seen a girl play in the CPS 16" softball league.

Bridget is not the only female on the squad as she is joined by Junior Samantha Erwin and Sophomore Theresa Wilcoski.

Expect big things from these young ladies on and off the field this year!
