Vannett and Merchants Fry Shrimpers

Fargo, North Dakota – On a rainy Wednesday evening the Jamestown Merchants routed the Red River Shrimpers 9-1 to win their seventh in a row and improve to 7-5 on the year.

The Merchants jumped on the Shrimpers early with a four run first inning highlighted by Scott Stephenson’s two run double.

Sam Hirchert provided the Merchants with five strong innings on the mound giving up only one unearned run and striking out eight to pick up his second victory of the year.

The Merchants broke open a 4-1 game in the seventh off the bat of Joe Vannett, who laced a bases clearing triple into the right center gap. “I think that was my first Merchant triple since the 90’s,” stated Vannett who crushed the Shrimpers pitching all night, collecting three hits while driving in four runs.

The Merchants will have the weekend off before they look to fry the Shrimpers again next Wednesday, July 1st at Helling Field. First pitch 7:00 PM.
