Fargo, North Dakota- In the first ever North Dakota Amateur Baseball matchup between Purdy brothers, Jared “J-Rod” Purdy of the Jamestown Merchants came away victorious over his brother Daren and the Fargo Mets.
The J-Rod and Merchants shutout the Mets 3-0 in a rain shortened game Friday night at Teamsters Field.
J-Rod led the way for the Merchants knocking in two of the three Merchant runs with sac flies in his first two at bats.
“It was a big night for my family; we had fifteen to twenty Purdy’s in attendance. I’m just glad we were able to win” stated J-Rod while he, Darren and the rest of the Purdy family crushed some Hardeez after the game.
Brandon Baumgartner threw five scoreless on the mound for the Merchants; he allowed one hit and struck out nine batters.
The Merchants are now 12-6 on the year. Their next game will take place Wednesday night at 7:00 PM against the Red River Shrimpers. The first five fans in attendance will receive a copy of Forrest Gump on VHS.
