Merchants come up short against the Brewers

July 22, 2015

Fargo, North Dakota – The Merchants lost 4-3 against the Moorhead Brewers Wednesday night at Helling Field.

Sam Hirchert started for the Merchants and was phenomenal for the first six innings. However, he ran into some trouble in the seventh. The Brewers scored three runs all coming on a three run home run by Tom Fuchs.

“Would I have liked to throw a CG shutout?  Of course.  Was I dominating for the most part tonight?  Of course.  That tall 8 hitter sat back on a 3-2 curveball and popped it up over the right field fence.  What can I say?  I’m only one guy.  I can’t pitch and score runs for this team.  I mean, I could, but might as well let the other guys play, too,” chimed Sam after the game on his way to Hardeez with his girlfriend.

The Brewers tacked on another run in the eighth off Baumy to make the score 4-2.

The Merchants threatened in the eighth picking up a run to make it 4-3, but were sent down in order in the ninth.

Tom Houdek collected two hits and Dan Ross drove in two runs for the Merchants in the loss.

The Merchants (12-7) will travel to Enderlin Friday night. First pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM.
