Party Bus, Stephenson lead Merchants to Win over Enderlin

July 24, 2015

Enderlin, North Dakota – The Merchants rode in style on a 30 passenger bus to Enderlin on Friday night in what turned out to be the “Scott Stephenson Show.”

“I hit the gym so hard this morning, I knew we had a big game tonight and my team needed me to step up,” stated the burly Stephenson.  Scott shined on the field and at the VFW after the game setting a record for slices of Hegge’s pizza eaten.

Stephenson, the Merchants regular left fielder led the M’s at the plate by going 2 for 4 with a solo homer that drilled a passing by train in centerfield. Last we heard, Scott’s ball was still travelling on the train somewhere down in Missouri.

However, it was on the mound where Scott really showed his dominance.

The Indies looked baffled all night while Scott mixed in upper 80’s fastballs and knee buckling curveballs as the sun went down on the dimly lit Enderlin field. “You think those guys go to the gym seven days a week like me? I don’t think so,” stated Scott while he downed his postgame protein shake.

Stephenson was phenomenal on the mound, throwing four scoreless innings of relief for starter Greg Lunski.  Stephenson allowed only one hit and struck out ten batters.

“I haven’t seen a shutdown performance like this in a while,” stated the self proclaimed "Mayor of Enderlin," Jeff Nold while he crushed some post game Hardeez on the party bus.

The Merchants collected ten hits in total and broke a tie ball game open with a five-run fifth inning. Stephenson shut the door the rest of the way and collected his second save of the year.

On a down note, Preston Jensen was hit by a pitch and broke his hand.  It’s not looking good as far as PJ getting back on the field this year.  We wish him the best and know he will be back stronger than ever next year!

The Merchants (13-7) will travel to Target Field West Fargo on Wednesday to play the Moorhead Brewers. Game time scheduled for 7:00 PM.
