Starting Pitchers Routine

                                                           STARTING PITCHERS ROUTINE

Day 1- Pitch in the game

Day 2- Long toss program- work on stretching the pitchers arm.  Good day for fungo drill with pitching coach.

*Fungo drill: Pitching coach hit ground balls to pitcher from 60, 90, and 120 feet.  The pitcher throws the ball back on a line using crow hop, on hop back to receiver, making sure body stays close enough and hold the energy for as long as possible, this eliminates the bad throws that pitchers normally make when they have a sore arm the day after they pitch.  This can also be used for command, control, conditioning, PFP.

Day 3- Regular bullpen- Start with long toss to get loose and build arm strength, lengthen to 100-120 feet for 20 throws, amount of throws may vary depending on how arm feels.

Day 4- Short bullpen- With catcher in front of the plate, work on a particular pitch, fastball command, etc. This should not exceed 20 pitches.

Day 5- Short game of catch and a few throws on flat ground.

Day 6- Pitch in the game- Starting pitcher should be on the field ready to go at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the game.  Catcher and pitching coach should be on the field down the line at the same time all together.
