Fargo, ND – The Miller Lite Merchants beat the Mayville Redcaps on Wednesday night at No Name Field coming away with a hard fought 4-3 victory.
The Merchants got on the board right away scoring two in the first to give starter Greg Lunski a lead.
Mayville got on the board in the third after the Merchants booted the ball around a couple of times. However, Brandon Baumgartner got that run right back for the Merchants in the fourth with an RBI double.
Lunski gave another run back to the Redcaps in the fifth but was solid on the mound in his five innings of work only giving up one earned run.
The scored stayed 3-2 until the eighth, when Mayville loaded the bases with no outs against Brandon Baumgartner who was relieving Lunski. Baumgartner managed to get out of the jam limiting the Redcaps to only one run.
The M’s answered right back to break the tie with a “Merchant Run” in the eighth as Dakotah Kirchenwitz scored on a wild pitch.
The Redcaps tried to make things interesting in the ninth as they had two runners on but Baumgartner got Mayville cleanup hitter Mickey Berry to ground out back to the mound to end the game.
The Merchants are now (8-2) on the season and will take the weekend off before they play the Jamestown Elks next Wednesday at No Name Field.
Notes: Dakotah Kirchenwitz collected his 9th hit of the season, which surpasses his total from the entire 2016 season.
