Merchants Coast to 4-1 Victory over Valley City

July 16, 2017

Jamestown, ND – The Miller Lite Merchants put it in cruise control on Sunday evening at Jack Brown Stadium beating the Valley City Saints 4-1.

The Merchants jumped on the Saints early, scoring one run in the first and three more in the second to take a 4-0 lead.

After that, Saints starter Chase Carpenter shut down the Merchants the rest of the day giving up only three hits in his last six innings of work.

“After the second inning, there was a country club like atmosphere to the game, we took our foot off the gas and relaxed. Luckily Baumy kept throwing up zeros.” stated Turner Storm as he was too busy hurrying home to watch Game of Thrones to grab his glove and batting gloves from the dugout.

Brandon Baumgartner went the distance for the M’s in this pitcher’s duel, giving up only one run. Baumgartner struck out eight Saints in route to his fifth win of the summer.

Andrew Hill, Bryan Erstad and Joe Vannett each had two hits for the Merchants who had seven in all.

The Miller Lite Merchants (17-4) will take on the Mayville Redcaps Wednesday at No Name Field. The first fan in attendance will get a free Beast courtesy of Miller Lite.

Notes: Baumgartner collected his 300th career Merchant strikeout in the first inning. Tony Viger had his team leading seven game hit strike snapped.
