What is West Salem Junior Baseball?

West Salem Junior Baseball is an Oregon non-profit corporation that exists to provide young boys and girls an opportunity to participate in an organized baseball experience.
It is our goal to mechanically prepare, instill the love of the game and build lasting character in the next generation of highly competitive baseball players for West Salem High School.

How we do it?

Due to sponsorships and private donations, coupled with fundraising efforts by the players, we can keep our registration fees down. The fundraising opportunities that arise will act as team-building exercises as well as helping the kids to feel a real ownership of their place on the team.

Tournaments?

The number of tournaments participated in will be up to each individual team. To save on costs both to the organization and to our families, the tournaments that our teams will look to participate in are all located in the state of Oregon. Most will be close enough to travel to and from each day, though there may be some that would require an overnight stay.

How much are sign-ups?

Our goal is to make this experience as affordable as possible, so the fees for 2021 season are $300. This is comparable to the price of other league and tournament organizations.

Are there hidden costs?

The registration/participation fee, along with all money raised by fundraising and sponsors goes towards paying for facility rentals, practice games, tournaments, uniforms, insurance and registration. Food and gas for travel are additional expenses to the families.

Extra fees for tournaments?

The cost of the registration for all tournaments that we may participate in is covered by the registration/participation fees along with fundraised dollars. Hotel accommodations (if necessary) as well as food and gas are extra costs that each family will be responsible for.

Where are practices? What days and times?

One should expect to have practice and/or games 3-4 nights a week with tournaments being held on the weekends while the season is running. There may be a few Saturday practices/fundraising/team building opportunities throughout the year, including a few fun surprises along the way. Full practices will be set as we learn more about the 2021 schedule – (time/dates/locations TBD)

How many kids will participate?

For 2021 West Salem Junior Baseball’s goal is to field the following 3 levels: 14u, 13u, and 12u- with additional ages based on player interest and coach selection. Teams are generally rostered with no more than 12 kids. Players & Families are required to sign and adhere to individual Code of Conduct Contracts and sign waivers.

2021 Team Selection

Given the unique situation of 2020 and 2021, coaches will contact returning players to gauge interest in participating. However, there are also expected to be a limited number of spots for new families. New players should contact the league to register for an assessment by emailing: westsalemjuniorbaseball@gmail.com or via Facebook Messenger. Players who are rostered will register and pay at that time.

Playing Time?

Playing time is determined by work ethic, determination and skill execution at practices and at games. We do not guarantee that every kid will play an equal number of innings.

What level of play?

Players are grouped into 3 distinct age divisions: 14u, 13u, and 12u. Please review the Age calculator in the "About" tab under "links". Some temporary movement to higher age divisions may occur based on team needs and player interest.

The level of play will be determined by the players selected for the team. We are looking for kids who want to play and learn, and those want to get better. Our goal is to win more than we lose, but we believe that more can be learned from a loss than can be learned from 10 wins.

We aim for this program to be a blend of different types of programs, with a twist. We want to incorporate the FUN of Little League, the COMPETITION of a tournament team and quality INSTRUCTION.
