The Model Laboratory baseball team opened the season with a 16-1 five-inning victory over Lynn Camp on Monday in Corbin.
The Patriots had 13 hits and took advantage of five errors. Model scored twice in the first inning, then took control by scoring nine times in the second.
Casey Brandenburg led the way for the Patriots. The senior was 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs scored and a walk.
Jakob Tharp was 2-for-2 and scored twice and Cruse Pingleton was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI and a walk.
Brandon Tudor got the start and allowed just one unearned run on one hit in three innings of work. He also had six strikeouts and did not walk a batter.
Pingleton pitched one inning and had two strikeouts.
Model took a 1-0 lead in the first after Brandenburg scored on a wild pitch. Moments later, Taylor Hill also scored on a wild pitch.
Model’s first 10 batters reached base in the top of the second inning. The Patriots had five hits in the inning, including a double by Tharp.
Mitchell McCown was 1-for-2 with two RBI and two walks. Hill walked twice and scored twice. Andrew Sisson had a hit, two RBI and scored a run. John Frazier had a hit, walk and scored a run. Luke Keck was 1-for-3 and scored a run.
Nate Davis had a hit, two RBI and scored a run. Tudor also had a hit.
