Whitepine League announces football award (Kendall, Payton, Titus)

The Prairie Pirate football team may have fallen in the state semifinals, but in northern Idaho, there was no doubt who reigned supreme.

Pirate quarterback Spencer Schumacher was Whitepine League player of the year and Prairie coach Ryan Hasselstrom was coach of the year, when the Whitepine League released its honor roll on Wednesday.

Lapwai linebacker Tui Moliga was defensive player of the year and Wildcat wideout Kendall Leighton was offensive player of the year. Their squad fell in the opening round of the Idaho Class 1A Division I playoffs, as did Clearwater Valley, whose Bubba Summers was special teams player of the year for the WPL. The Rams broke a long hiatus from the postseason by returning this year.
