Merchants split at State

August 23, 2020

The Merchants went 1-1 at the AAA NDAB State baseball tournament held this weekend in Jamestown.  After a thrilling 6-2 come from behind win against the Valley City Saints in game one, they lost to the Jamestown Greyhounds 8-2 to be eliminated from pool play and the tournament.

Greg Lunski spun a gem on the hill on Friday night vs. VC, and Andrew Hill provided the power with a 3 run bomb over the ivy in right field to put the Merchants comfortably up 6-2 in the 7th.

On Saturday, the Hounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and the M's were playing catch up the rest of the way.  They got to within 3-2 with a 2 run homer from Bryan Erstad in the 5th, but the Hounds answered with four in the 6th to lengthen the lead.  8-2 was the final with Baumy going six innings and Keaton Cederstrom allowing one run in the 7th.

The Merchants finish the season at 7-7 on the year.  it was an all around average year but one they are glad to have played given the pandemic circumstances.  They will look to get things going again next year and rebound with another championship season.  Have a safe and healthy offseason!

Big thanks to our 2020 sponsors, Beverage Wholesalers and Buffalo Wilds Wings, much appreciated!
