Tuesday night, the Lapwai Wildcats earned another big victory, this one coming 53-16 over the Kamiah Kubs. Lapwai continued with their brand of high pressure defense, and high tempo offence.

Senior point guard glory Sobotta is at the forefront of Lapwai's explosive style of play.

"It’s a really fast paced game,” she said. “Just press and push the ball.”

It’s the same system that brought them success last season, outrun everyone on offense, and smother teams on defense. It worked well enough to bring Lapwai their 10th state title last year. But the team has their sights set on going back to back.

"The goal is always a repeat," she said.

Training to get better was difficult with facilities closed this summer, but glory still found a way to improve.

"I worked on a lot of ball handling since the gyms weren’t open," she said.

She's also surprised herself with improved court vision and better rebounding.

Glory also has had a lifelong training partner; Her sister grace is another Lapwai standout.

"Grace and I are pretty competitive when it comes to sports, and just life," she said.

She says the constant competition has bred them both to be better basketball players.

"Our practices get pretty intense when we scrimmage," she said. “We have to guard each other usually.”

Glory says she’s very confident in each of her teammates, and that anyone can have a big night. She says even if the team is struggling, their strong enough to work through it and find success.

“Sometimes we struggle a little bit, but we pick ourselves back up and finish,” she said.
