Fargo, ND – The Jamestown Miller Lite Merchants opened their 2021 season with a 7-2 victory over the Fargo Mets Wednesday night at Helling Field.
Under windy conditions, the Merchants pounded out 12 hits highlighted by newcomers Zach Kluvers, Jesse Munsterman and Tommy Linn who combined to collect 7 of them.
After trading runs in the first inning, the Mets and Merchants stayed scoreless until the M’s erupted for 6 runs on 4 hits in the top half of the fifth inning. After that it was full on coast mode for the Merchants.
John Eckstein and Brandon Baumgartner provided 7 innings of scoreless relief for opener and 2021 North Dakota Amateur Baseball Hall of Famer Greg Lunski.
Eckstein (1-0) picked up his first win of the season throwing four hitless innings.
The Merchants are back in action next Wednesday night against the Cass County Catfish, first pitch 7:02pm.
