Down by 5 in the 9th? Merchants Complete the Comeback over Mets!

August 3, 2022

The Merchants were dead in the water Wednesday night against the Fargo Mets. Having mustered only 5 hits all night and staring a 5 run deficit in the face. It was over, the Merchants were doomed.  The Mets were about to get their first win in 13 tries against the Merchants.  Not so fast my friends!“We just need five”, stated JB as the Merchant dugout collectively tried to pull themselves together for one final push in the ninth. And one more push they got. After striking out streaky Dan "Bad Knees" Ross to start off the ninth. The Merchants went to work.Bryan Erstad laced a right center gapper cautiously stretching a double into a single. Colten Alme followed with another single and Preston Jensen came through with a big double to cut the lead to 3.Then the Mets started helping out. An errant infield throw allowed Jake Bryant to reach base. Carlos Turpo then roped a double in the right center gap to score both Jake and Preston to cut the deficit to one.JB’s single up the middle tied things up at 6 and another ground ball by Jesse Munsterman was once again thrown away allowing JB to score and the Merchants to walk-off the Mets in an improbable comeback.“I don’t think one word was spoken until a beer was cracked in the parking lot.” Said the Mets manager as he was in disbelief after losing his 13th game in a row to the Merchants.Carlos “I think this was my first career Merchant win on the mound” collected his first career win in fine vulture fashion. Walking two and hitting one all while giving up four runs in an inning of work.Erstad led the Merchants at the plate going to 3 for 3. JB Morales also added three hits for the M’s.Merchants are back at beautifully artificial Starion Field for their regular season finale next Wednesday against the Fargo Crows.
