John Eckstein came out firing strikes and didn't stop for nine innings. He knew he would have to shoulder most of the load and did just that shutting down the Mets for a complete game, 3-1 win. The Mets struck first with their lone run in the top of the 7th, but the Merchants answered with three in the bottom of the 7th which was all the scoring on the night.
Eckstein struck out six allowing just the one run, while walking none and scattering 9 hits working out of multiple jams.
The bottom of the order packed the biggest punches for the Merchants with Beau Brunsvold doublling in the first run and Drew Clouse bringing home the go ahead and eventual game wining RBI.
The Merchants are now 2-1 on the year as they dropped a game last week to the Mudcats, 8-6.
Next up is Mayville on Wednesday at Helling Field.
