LAPWAI, Idaho – For Jayden Leighton, learning about culture and the land she lives on are her favorite parts of her school day.

"The Indian Club, the Nez Perce Youth Advisory Board, and our new Cultural Sovereignty Class," Leighton said.

She has a GPA over 3.6, and she stays busy outside of the classroom as well, playing multiple sports for the Wildcats.

"I play basketball and I play volleyball," She said.

As for her plan after high school, she wanted to study native history but recently had a change of heart.

"But now I'm leaning more towards social work, I want to be able to help children who look like me, and have gone through some of the things I've gone through," Leighton said.

And while she might not have a specific school picked out, she has a certain place in mind to look.

"Somewhere in California I'm not exactly sure yet but I'm signed with a modeling agency, Ford Models in Los Angeles and Chicago and I was hoping when I turn 18 and I'm able to go to school I can go do that in California, and be closer to my agency," Leighton said.
