Lapwai’s Powaukee earns WPL player of the year honors

Lapwai’s Samara Powaukee earned the Whitepine League Division I’s girls basketball player of the year award, highlighting the all-league selections that were announced Wednesday.

Kamiah headman Brandon Skinner was named the league’s coach of the year.

Powaukee, Prairie’s Lexi Schumacher, Kamiah’s Emma Krogh and Genesee’s Chloe Grieser were named to the WPL DI first-team. All honorees are listed below.

Coach of the year — Brandon Skinner, Kamiah

Player of the year — Samara Powaukee, senior, Lapwai

First Team — Samara Powaukee, senior, Lapwai; Lexi Schumacher, junior, Prairie; Emma Krogh, sophomore, Kamiah; Chloe Grieser, sophomore, Genesee

Second Team — Alaura Hawley, senior, Troy; Dericka Morgan, senior, Troy; Sage Elven, sophomore, Prairie; Kylie Schumacher, sophomore, Prairie; Skylin Picard, sophomore, Lapwai

CORRECTION

In Friday’s issue of the Tribune, in the Whitepine League Division I all-league team section of the area roundup, Kamiah senior Laney Landmark was left out of our reporting. Landmark is a first team all-league selection.
