League information

Who am I and what is my role?
My name is Jim Jasiewicz. My eMail is Jimjazz@hotmail.com and my cell is 518-253-1913. I volunteer to organize and try to help the Capital Division grow by providing a place for adults to play ball. I do this because I love playing baseball and I know there are others that are looking to get into baseball or just want to play even more baseball.
Are there other levels of input or assistance opportunities available?
I will be looking for a few people to step up and help this year assisting with the game day operations that include facilitating pregame warm-ups, team lineups, keeping scorebooks (if anyone has knowledge & experience with gamechanger I am looking for you), and game day captainsI will also need people to step up when I have a conflict and cannot make it to ensure we have baseball when I cannot make it.    Helping is not a club for a select few. If interested in stepping up to volunteer as an assistant, don't be shy. PLEASE let me know. There are always opportunities to help make things better. We all have something to offer.

What is the Capital Division all about?
The Capital District Men’s Senior Baseball League (CDMSBL) consists of multiple age group divisions. The Capital Division is just one of those divisions.
The way the Capital Division is run, how it operates, and goals have changed over the years in efforts to meet the changing dynamics of the players in the division. The division has always tried to balance teams and provide good balanced baseball. Some players have no other opportunities to play, some are trying to get reacclimated to the game due to long layoffs or recovery from injury, some just want more at bats and playing time, some are using it as a steppingstone to get into another division, some want to tune up for tournaments, some want to extend their season and others just want to play as much as possible.  The division continues to change to try to accommodate everyone involved in meeting their playing goals and continuing to offer low-cost organized baseball.

A number of players that came into the league through the Capital Division have found their way into about every other division in the CDSMBL by the following season. This can take some time and is not guaranteed. If this is your goal let me know when you see me. Ultimately it is up to the General Managers of teams as to how they fill their rosters but I am happy to try to point you in the right direction where I can.

This division is open to multiple age groups and skill levels and teams are balanced with a goal to have a place for everybody to play. With all this in mind, the objective is to provide organized quality baseball that supports & encourages players, offers multiple at bats, flexible positions, and understands we are all human. In baseball, success in batting is considered great when one gets a base hit more than 30% of the time. I am as competitive as the next guy, but we don’t want lose sight of the fact that we are playing baseball not curing cancer. But it is for the love of the game and comradery & friendships can go a long way in improving quality of life one play at a time.
A survey was taken at the end of last season and your input was appreciated and is a vital part of the planned approach to how things are set up and factor into how things will be run.

When and where do we play ball?
We plan to play most of our games on Sunday late afternoon at approximately 5PM at the Town of New Scotland Park baseball field (address below). The times get a little later in the summer and fall back a little earlier in the fall. The goal is to play about 15 or so games in the season, with possible "bonus baseball" in the fall. We are also hoping to get a game or two at the A Diamond in Schenectady’s Central Park. We are open to other field options if anybody is willing to do a little homework on that and get info back to me.
Like last year, the appetite for baseball grows in the late summer so continual baseball in the fall is likely, especially after divisional playoffs with the preparation for fall & winter tournaments.
Traditionally we do not play Mother’s Day or the weekends of Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.

What does it cost to play and what do I need to get on my own?

The league provides fields, umps, jerseys, and scorebooks & baseballs through money collected from players at the beginning of the season and throughout the year.

There are a few components to the cost, registration, 2 jerseys, and game fees. At some point we might do hats.

We are accepting full-season registrations. If you have the 2 jerseys from last year the fee is $145 and you will not pay per game until after the scheduled season ends and we get to "bonus baseball". Otherwise, the full-season registration is $195 and includes 2 jerseys.
The next option is to pay by the game. This also includes a registration fee of $45 and a per game cost of $10 plus $55 for 2 jerseys if you do not have them form last year. Full season commits will get guaranteed or the bulk of playing time when we have full rosters.
If you are someone that likely plays only a game or two and the financial commitment is burdensome let's talk. I cannot promise anything but am willing to explore options.

We have much more interest this year than last year and the hope is we are able to have the have established
teams and possible expansion. In this case we may be able to add a second game with established teams. We can         hope & strive for that.

Players are expected to have a batting helmet, wood bat(s), baseball pants (preferably gray), baseball cap, and the league supplied red jersey and blue jersey. I do have a few extra wooden bats, batting helmets, and some catcher gear available for community use. I also have some baseball pants you can have if they are your size.

How do I sign up?

If you decide you want to commit for the season OR if you are just thinking of playing a few games, please complete the registration on-line for the Capital Division
CD-MSBL has moved into the 21st century for rosters and registration, with an On-Line Form.  If I can do it, anyone can!  It takes about 5 minutes.
You must complete the CDMSBL Registration & Waiver form for the Capital Division regardless of if you have completed paper copies in the past or if you play for more than one division and already completed a form for that division. You must complete one for each team or division in which you play.
To complete:
1)  Go to cdmsbl.com
2) From Tool Bar on Home Page, select "Official Rules"
3) Use QR code, or click on 2025 CDMSBL Waiver & Release, directly beneath the QR code.
4) Complete form as instructed.
        e.g.   Capital Division
Again, if you play for another team like me on the 55+ Pirates, you must submit a from for each team & division you are will be playing on. We currently do not have specific teams in the Capital Division.
5) When you submit the smart waiver, you will receive a verification email for your electronic signature.
You will need to access your email to confirm your electronic signature through that email.
6) You will receive an e-mail confirmation that you successfully completed your form, and it was accepted. Keep this for your records as it indicates that the submission is finalized.
NOTE: Download the confirmation within 72 hours as the link expires in 3 days.
What do I do next?

Once you have registered and paid, this is the most important part.
1. Send me an email to jimjazz@hotmail.com 2. forwarding you registration confirmation, 3. advise me of your method of payment, 4. include your age at your 2025 birthday,  5. Jersey size, 6. desired number(s) NOTE many numbers were used last year so pleas provide a few options,  7. positions you can play and 8. cellular number for text. On Game day, it is best to reach me by call or text at 518-253-1913. I generally do not have access to my email.

What can I expect next?
Getting commitments and info above helps to ensure enough players for a couple teams, secures paid umps, and impacts how smoothly the season rolls out. You can play once you have registered and responded to me with the requested info 1-8 above. If your jerseys are not in you can still play but you will need a red & a blue jersey of any kind until yours comes in.
I put out emails early in the week to confirm weekly commitments. Once we have enough to play a confirming email will be sent that the game is on. It is very important that everyone that intends to come lets me know as soon as they can so rosters can be made as much as possible before game day. We know life happens, but it is very important that if you commit you make every reasonable effort to come out and play. Your teammates are counting on you and it sure helps me in planning.
If you played last year, you know I work hard, along with others, to ensure that we play ball utilizing various formats and try to do my best to ensure it is organized, balanced, competitive, low pressure & fun baseball for everybody. I am approachable and love playing baseball and want to do my best to offer you the same opportunity at whatever level you are at.

What if I no longer want to get emails from the Capital Division?
Just send an email to jimjazz@hotmail.com and let me know and I will simply remove you from the email distribution list.

Field location is Town of New Scotland 148 Swift Rd, Voorheesville, NY 12186

Below is the expected schedule. Currently all games are at New Scotland Park. We may be able to add other dates and locations later in the year.

To everybody on the email, please respond directly to me as to which dates you will play. Hit "Reply" and NOT "Reply All". Early in the week of a game an email will be sent indicating who has responded that they will play. There may be subsequent emails to encourage participation. As soon as we have enough for a game, an umpire will be sought and a confirmation that the "Game is on" will be sent. I would really want to know by Friday so team rosters can be set in advance. (Check your Junk or Spam folders as this is a large email list and may be directed there at times)

Game start time will be 5:30 with everybody expected to the park by 445 in order to finalize teams.
