Our Mission: The Mission of the Mequon-Thiensville Basketball Association is to develop quality basketball players through a positive, structured, and competitive program that enhances the basketball opportunities offered to Mequon-Thiensville student athletes.
Who: All 3th through 8th grade boys who reside in Mequon or Thiensville or who attend Mequon-Thiensville public schools are eligible to compete for a spot on an MTBA team.
What: An association of coaches, student-athletes and parents dedicated to increasing their knowledge of, and love for, the game of basketball while providing unique opportunities to develop each players’ skills through practice and games. This is a competitive program. Making a team and playing time are not guaranteed.
Where: Practices will be held at Mequon-Thiensville public schools. Teams will enter Wisconsin Youth Basketball League, competitive tournaments, and games that will require travel outside of the Mequon-Thiensville area.
When: Practice begins the last week in October. The teams will play in League games and tournaments between November and March/April. The league games are on Sundays and tournaments are typically all on weekends. Some teams will also compete in summer leagues, which occur in June and July.
Why: In 2000, a group of parents and coaches founded MTBA to provide a competitive basketball environment for those players who wish to compete beyond their recreational and middle school teams.
Cost: The yearly registration fee is $350 for the first player in the family and $175 for each additional family member playing the same year. Cost is $175 for 3rd Graders who will practice once weekly. This fee covers the cost of uniforms, gym rental, tournament entry fees and equipment. Each player will keep his reversible practice jersey. We intend to order long sleeve warm-up tops for all of the players again this year. We will not charge families separately for the cost of the shooting shirts. The registration fee is due when the player is selected for a team. Parents with financial limitations should contact Joe Ciurlik about scholarship opportunities at jchighlanderinfo@gmail.com.
Can I be on a MTBA team and play for my middle school and/or slammers team?
Yes. Many players do this. The M-T School District is not a member of the WIAA at the middle school level so there is no rule preventing a player from doing both. The MTBA will be flexible in accommodating these conflicts.
Is there equal playing time for all players?
No. This is a competitive league and the players are unlikely to play the same amount of time in games. However, the coaches are encouraged to give all players meaningful opportunities to participate.
Who are the Coaches? Teams are traditionally coached by parents of the boys. The Homestead boys’ basketball coaches will help you in this area by assisting in running early season practices for you and conducting clinics to teach the basics of the Homestead offense and defense.
