2019 BALL 4 LIFE Basketball Rules

LOCATION:                 ST Pius X RC Church.

1 St Pius CT, Plainview NY 11803

Just a reminder to everyone, this is a RECREATION LEAGUE & most of us work the next day so keep that in mind.

TIME:                   The referee will be instructed to start the game on time and team cooperation is a must. Our contract calls for each game to run for an hour.  Games will start on schedule when five (5) players from each team are on the court. In order to stay on schedule and avoid forfeits a team may begin play with four (4) players but at the beginning of the 2nd half if your 5th player does not arrive that team forfeits unless other team still wants to play it out. Reminder if a team has 4 players the opposing team can run with 5.

REFEREES:          2 Refs will be scheduled for all games.

Each team will give a total of $55 per game.

The referee’s decision on the court is final so please don’t walk to the table and complain to me about the call because I can’t change the call.

All discrepancies must be resolved by team’s captains and the referee.   Un-sportsman like conduct will not be tolerated.

MODIFY RULES:   --Men’s League you have 8 seconds to cross half court.

--6 Fouls and you foul out

--During free-throws only 5 people allowed in the lanes.

3 Defensive Players and 2 Offensive Players.

--We will have jump balls for every discrepancy and tie-ups.

GAME TIME:       The game consists of 24 minutes and 20 minutes running time for the first and second half, respectfully. The clock stops in the last 2 minutes of the second half only. First half I will stop the clock only on free-throws last minute of the half.

I will use Shot clocks 2nd half of the schedule and shot clocks go on for ALL of 2nd half play.

Overtime periods will be 5 minutes long and during the regular season after the first 5 minute overtime if the game is still tied each team receives a tie in the standings. Playoffs obviously we continue till we get a winner (each team gets ONE time-out during Overtime).  During the overtime period the clock will stop only for time outs and the last minute of the period.

FOULS:                 All fouls are at the discretion of the referee.

A team receives bonus free throws (1 and 1) after the opposing  team has committed their 7th foul  and 2 bonus free throws after the 10th foul of a half.

A player is disqualified after committing 6 personal fouls.

Intentional Fouls will be treated as personal fouls.

Break-a-way Foul will result in 2 shots and the ball.

ALL TECHNICALS are 2 shots plus the ball.

Flagrant Foul 1 (hard foul) shall result in 2 shots and the ball.  A player committing a second flagrant Foul 1 shall result in 2 shots and the ball, the player being ejected and suspended for one game.  A 3rd Flagrant Foul 1 on any one player during the season will result in 2 shots and the ball and that player being thrown out of the league.

Flagrant Foul 2 (intent to injure) shall result in 2 shots and the ball and that player being ejected from the game and a one game suspension.  Any Flagrant foul during the season after a player has received a Flagrant Foul 2, that player will be thrown out of the league.

If a team has only 5 players and one of the players gets their 6th foul, the player can remain in the game but every foul after 6 the opposing team shall receive 2 shots and the ball. This rule only applies to teams having 5 players

TIME OUTS:         Each team gets 2 time outs per half. You can carry 1st half timeouts if not used to 2nd half so in total can have all 4 timeouts to use during 2nd half. Teams go to overtime each team gets 1 timeout. Don’t care if you had time outs remaining in regulation play. Each timeout will be for a minute in duration.  A time out request after the allowable number of time outs has been used, shall result in a technical foul and loss of possession for the offending team.  Teams can advance the ball to half court ONLY last minute of second halves on time outs. Remember the offensive team has to call timeout.

UNIFORMS:          All players must wear shirts of their team’s official color.  Numbered shirts would be a huge help to ref and table.  If a player does not have the proper uniform the opposing team will be awarded 2 technical foul shots and keep possession of the ball on the start of the game.

PLAYOFFS:          Rosters in the Playoffs are FROZEN and only players on your roster can play. To qualify for playoffs a player must show up to at least 3 regular season games unless hurt and is healthy for playoffs.
